Scripture: Proverbs 10
Chapter 10 begins another section of the book of Proverbs which focuses on the application of wisdom in daily life. In the first few chapters,we saw Solomon instructing the young people of his day like a father gives advice to a child. However, the underlying principles of these instructions are helpful to every believer.
There is a guarantee that wisdom brings great benefits to anyone that seeks it. We saw this in Chapter 9 where the difference between wisdom and foolishness is highlighted, portraying wisdom as rival young women, each preparing a feast and inviting people to it.
This is similar to the parable of the Great Banquet in Luke 14:15-24 where many guests were invited to attend, but many never made it because they were sidetracked by other activities that seem more important at the time. We should not let anything become more important than our search for Godly wisdom.
Wisdom’s call is to discipleship. Following wisdom is an act of faithful and obedient service. Having the right relationship with God is the starting point of wisdom. Wisdom offers long-term satisfaction and leads to life, while folly which brings immediate gratification, ultimately leads to death.
This is our month of Divine Direction and I believe its not a coincidence that we are reading the book of Proverbs at the moment. God must be drawing our attention to something important there. Let’s continue to take our lessons from the book and by them become wiser.
Surely as we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our paths. Amen 🙏
