Thoughts from Proverbs Chapter 12

Proverbs 12:4

An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones

King Solomon is particular about certain qualities in our lives, especially righteousness and love. He tries to bring out the results of these qualities by juxtaposing them with their opposites. For example in verse 4, he says “An excellent wife is a crown unto her husband”

Many wives are so bitter and resentful at their husbands. When such wives gather, their favourite topic of discussion is their husbands and most of the time, not for good.

Solomon, the Wiseman is telling wives that they should concentrate on being excellent wives and GOD will use that excellence to crown their husbands. So the antidote of grumblings is to be excellent despite the situation.

Meanwhile the wife that wants to fight and argue at every moment is actually creating the building blocks that turn the husband into the unpleasant man that he appears to be. These are the words of the wisest man in earth. Wives should do well to heed them.

He also shows what it means to be righteous – The righteous are established; their mindset is fruitful; their words keep them from danger; they are considerate, even to animals.

Solomon keeps repeating just how detestable lying lips are before GOD. If we lie easily, GOD cannot answer our prayers.

These are advices that we are honoured to have and we should pray that we can leverage on to live a glorious life.

May we not overlook these advices. May we read them over and over again till the truth therein becomes our compass in life.
