BIBLE CHARACTER OF THE WEEK. 

MIRIAM 

INTRODUCTION:

Miriam is the daughter of Amram and Jochebed the Levites and the sister of Aaron and Moses and a prophetess in Israel. Exodus 2:1-8.

HER STRENGTHS

1. Loving and caring

2. Courageous

3. Good Leadership

4. Gifted in songs

5. Outspoken

Miriam was a woman who was loving and caring towards everyone especially her family and didn’t hesitate to show it even in the midst of the bad time they were going through in Egypt at the time of Moses birth. Exodus 2:4-6.

Even as a child she was able to stand before pharaoh’s daughter and ask her permission to get a nurse for her brother by the river.

HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS 

1. Miriam was able to get the best nanny for Moses when pharaoh’s daughter found him in the river Nile. Exodus 2:7-9

2. She led the women of Israel to praise and worship God after their deliverance in the red sea and the Egyptians. Exodus 15:20-21

3. She used her gift to the glory of God and also encourage others as well.

4. She was sent by God to the Israelites after God delivered them from the Egyptians. Micah6:4

5. She enjoyed divine healing of God from leprosy. Numbers 12:13-15

6. She learnt from her mistake that everyone has his/her place and it was never recorded that she spoke ill of anyone again.

MIRIAM WEAKNESSES 

1. Discontentment

2. Jealousy

3. Gossip and backbiting

4. Dishonor to authority

Miriam exhibited the above listed vices by wanting to be like Moses just because she is probably older than him and also gifted with gift of music and prophecy. Exodus 15:21

HER MISTAKES 

1. Miriam and Aaron spoke ill of Moses behind his back and became upset as to why Should only Moses be able to hear from God. Numbers12:1

2. She was not satisfied with her ability and was jealous of her brother Moses.

LESSON TO APPLY

1. We are created for different reasons inorder to achieve one purpose which is bringing glory to God .

2. Never compare your yourself to others, we are in competition with no one.

3. Unconditional love is key in our christian journey both to humanity and God.

4. Bitterness, jealousy and ingratitude for what we have and don’t have must be dealt with.

5. Learn from your mistakes and others.
