1 Chronicles 24

This is a detailed listing of all the duties of the Levites in the house of the LORD.

We noticed that there was no partially. All positions that required just one slot was put on lot.

Interestingly, David supervised the process for transparency.

If we compare King Saul with King David, we find one very glaring difference King Saul was particular about his self image and desired the praises of the people so he was all about pleasing the people, even if it meant slightly disobeying GOD.

David on the other hand was a man who longed to please the LORD, even at his own expense.

Wherever he failed, he knew how to return and seek GOD’s face for explanation and will immediately put corrections in place.

I would want to believe that this great and meticulous work he started doing in the house of the LORD was orchestrated by the death of Uzziah.

Let’s take a look back.

1 Chronicles 13:7 -10,12

So they carried the ark of GOD on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.

Then David and all Israel played music before GOD with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets.

And when they came to Chidon’s threshing floor, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled.

Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzza, and He struck him because he put his hand to the ark; and he died there before GOD.

David was afraid of GOD that day, saying, “How can I bring the ark of GOD to me?”

Despite David’s good intention to honour GOD by using a brand new cart to carry the ark and also getting everyone to dance and sing; despite Uzzah’s good intention to reach out to prevent the Ark from falling, GOD responded with a death. David was initially angry considering all the efforts everyone had made to usher in the Ark with such great pomp. Utterly confused he knew to seek GOD’s face for an answer. He didn’t just sweep it off, rather he sought for an answer and he got it. He understood that above our desire to please GOD with a great show of pomp, all GOD truly wants is obedience – doing things in the order HE had put down. Don’t add, don’t remove.

1 Chronicles 15:2, 11,13.

Then David said, “No one may carry the ark of GOD but the Levites, for the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of GOD and to minister before Him forever.”

And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites: for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.

For because you did not do it the first time, the LORD our GOD broke out against us, *because we did not consult Him about the proper order.”*

The moment David got this understanding, he went all out to ensure that the proper order was not only put in place but was established, transparently.

1chronicles chapters 23 through to-27 is an account of how serious David was in putting things in their proper order, to glorify GOD and not man

Points to Ponder

1. When we don’t receive answers to prayers or things appear to be working against us, what do we do? Most often we call it a test of our faith or attribute it to demonic attack. And respond by organizing warfare prayers, sessions upon sessions of praise and worship. This is what we often do.

2. But what should we do? We noticed that all the sessions of praises and singing that David did were not acceptable unto the LORD. And we noticed that David responded by seeking the LORD to know why. What should we do? I believe too that when having done all, and still the odds are against us, we should do like David did and enquire what could be the matter.

3. And when we receive the answer from the LORD, we should set ourselves to implement the corrections as prescribed by the LORD, not as we deem fit.

4. Very important even in the implementation of the corrections is our supervision to ensure transparency and equity. We should not just delegate, but also be involved and committed to its completion.

5. Whatever service we are doing unto the LORD, let us find out how the LORD would want it done and do it exactly, not adding, not deleting.

6. GOD is more interested in our obedience than our sacrifice.

Prayer Point

Father, help me to know what type of prayers to pray in times of difficulties.

2. Father, grant me the grace to know what to do with your answer

3. Father, grant me the grace to be sensitive to carrying out every instruction according to your will

All these I ask in the mighty name of JESUS, Amen.

Thank you LORD
