Themes: God’s love, mercy, faithfulness and covenant to David and his house.
Verses 1-37 of this Psalm tells us about God’s promises of the covenant of love, mercy and faithfulness to David and his house.
This covenant is everlasting. It will not be altered. Someone from David’s family will always be king as seen in 2 Samuel 7:12-17.
From these wonderful promises of God, David promised to sing of the mercies of the LORD forever in verse one of Psalm 89 which has become a very popular song in Christendom today.
A Song
“I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever, I will sing of the mercies of the LORD. DC.
With my mouth will I make known.
Thy faithfulness ×2
With my mouth will I make known.
Thy faithfulness to all generations.
I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever I will sing of the mercies of the LORD.”
From verse 19, David recounted all the sweet promises that God made to him even in his visions.
Verse 20 , he reminded God how God anointed him with His Holy Oil.
In verses 28 and 29, “My mercy will I keep for him forevermore and my covenant shall stand fast with him. Verse 29, “His seed will I also make to endure forever and his throne as the days of heaven.”
Verse 34, ” My covenant will I not break nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.”
Glorious covenant ! Beautiful promises up to verse 37.
From verses 38- 52, those sweet promises became prayer points. Why ?
David has broken the covenant because of sin.
People of God, this is what happens to any child of God who falls from God’s grace.
God’s beautiful promises to David were enacted until sin came in then it looked like the promises have become a mirage! But God is always faithful that is why Jesus Christ is from the tribe of Judah which is David’s offspring.
So people of God no matter what , let’s always run to our Maker. He knows how to fix up our broken pieces.
Do not give room to the devil by remaining in sin. If you do, your glorious destiny will be truncated.
That will not be our portion in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your beautiful promises for Your children!
We pray that nothing will alter these promises in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name!
As You have spoken to us, so will they come to pass in our lives in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
Sin will not have dominion over any of Your children in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
