Thoughts on Proverbs 3

Seek His will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take

Proverbs 3:6 NLT

The scriptures admonishes in Ephesians 5:17….. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is……

This is not in any way down playing or belittling our God-given ability to reason but bringing our attention to making God a vital part of everything we do. This means turning every area of our lives over to Him as we acknowledge that God is a better judge than we are and He knows the best path for us.

As believers, the best option of knowing His Will is our commitment to Reading, Studying and Meditating on the Word of God.

2 Tim 3:16-17(NLT)reveals that all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work

Through His Word, He not only instructs us, but also directs and guides us to our expected outcomes.

Prioritising God is also applicable to giving. We do not give Him the leftovers but the best portion of every harvest. Giving our first fruits as taught by the LFF, demonstrates that God has first place in our lives, that our resources belong to Him and we are only managers of God’s resources.

As earlier outlined in the Overview of the Book of Proverbs, general principles to make us think and re-evaluate what we are doing are contained in the book. Though exceptions may occur, (at least temporarily), they do not change the inexorable principles. When we apply them to our day to day lives, many of the eventualities that shorten life can be avoided.

The benefits of wisdom are well highlighted in our reading today:

•Long, satisfying life

• Favour with God and people

• Reputation for good judgement

• Success

• Health, vitality

• Riches, honour, pleasure, peace

• Protection
