 1 Chronicles Chapter 25

The strategy applied widely here by King David is “Division of Labour.”

This chapter is all about the office of those who minister in songs with the instruments of music in the House of God.

Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their families were separated for songs ministration and to Prophesy with the instruments of music in the Sanctuary. These were also skillful in playing of instruments such as cymbals, psalteries and harps as well as singing and prophesying in the words of God.

King David’s ordinances show a well structured government. This is to let people know that the services rendered in the house of God must be thorough.

Music department in the house of God is a tedious task. Every member of this department needs a serious training both in voice, body exercise, stage performance and playing instruments.

The three people and their families were dedicated to the music ministry just like Aaron and his children were consecrated in the priesthood.

It is good for people to serve in the house of God according to their area of specialisation but those who don’t have the mastery can be trained by their leaders just like Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun trained and worked with members of their families in their ministry.

The number of people in the department of music were two hundred and eighty-eight (288). Twelve people from twenty-four families.

Haman was the king’s seer incharge of the words of God to lift up the horn.Verse 5. God blessed Haman with many children. He had 14 sons and 3 daughters, altogether 17 children.

The lot that was cast to choose the heads of each group of the twelve members fell on twelve of the sons of Haman. The other twelve heads of their groups of twelve came from the family of Asaph and Jeduthun.

King David learnt his lesson of doing the work of God according to God’s prescription from the death of Uzzah who was just trying to protect the Ark of God from falling.

Lessons

1.Every head of the department must have the knowledge of what is required of the department that he is incharge. He/she should be able to train every member of that group and carry them along to make the work of God easier.

2. When there is room for training, there will be room for improvement and enlargement.

3. Training and skills acquisition bring perfection.

4. Let us employ the method of the division of labour according to the areas of our specialisation to make our services in the house of God easier and interesting.

5. Each member of this music ministry was by the divine appointment.

6. The music ministry needs many dedicated people.
