2 Chronicles 25

King Amaziah was the ninth king of Judah. He was the son and successor of King Joash. He was the great great grandson of King Jehoshaphat king of Judah.

According to verse 2 of this Scripture, king Amaziah did that which was right in the sight of the LORD but not with a perfect heart.

May this not be our report in our walk with God on earth in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!

King Amaziah was praised for obeying the law of Moses by killing the asssassins of his father King Joash but spared their children as recorded in verses 3 and 4.

He also did well when he obeyed the counsel of the Man of God who advised him not to hire the men of War from Israel because the LORD was not with them as seen in Verses 6 – 11.

There is something in Verse 9 that is worth of note.

“Amaziah said to the Man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” And the man of God answered, “The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.”

Remember

King Amaziah did not seek counsel from the LORD as king David used to do before he went to hire the army of Israel. He depended on his wisdom and strength of the arm of flesh. He was operating in the spirit of error but God still gave him a second chance to sort himself out of the error by sending a prophet to him.

Thank God that he obeyed!

He was worried about the hundred talents which would have been a Loss but the man of God assured him that IF he could obey God that GOD IS ABLE TO GIVE HIM MUCH MORE THAN WAS LOST!

Children of God, this is an assurance that there will be abundant restoration of anything we have lost in error IF we can obey the voice of God and retrace our steps from sin and do what He tells us now!

THE SPIRIT OF ERROR IS DANGEROUS !

Look at what happened in Verse 13, because king Amaziah did not enquire from the LORD before going to hire the army of Israel. The army of Israel were angry because Amaziah did not use them again; he sent them back that they should not go with him to battle. These angry men went and attacked the cities of Judah and wasted three thousand precious lives and properties and took a great spoil from them while king Amaziah was at the battle field against the Edomites.

IT IS NOT GOOD TO WALK IN ERROR O !

The report of King Amaziah not following the LORD with a perfect heart is captured in verses 14-16 where he brought back the gods of the Edomites to Judah bowling down himself to them and burning incense to them.

The cup of King Amaziah’s iniquity was full that was why when God sent a prophet to warn him this second time, he threatened to kill the man of God. He even asked the prophet, “Are you the King’s counsellor?”

The man of God had to keep quiet to save his life and allowed him to continue in his folly.

In verse17, the judgment of God caught up with king Amaziah. He started looking for trouble with the king of Isael Joash. Eventhough king Joash warned him, he did not listen.

Verse 20 said, But Amaziah would not hear, for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.”

People of God, it is dangerous to kick against the law of God and become His enemy o !

Prayers

May we not open our door

to the spirit of error to find expression through us in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name!

Father, let none of Your children behave like king Amaziah by not following You with a perfect heart.

Father, help us to follow You with a perfect heart. Help us, Father, to walk before You and be blameless in all our ways in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
