2 SAMUEL 5
Topic: David Anointed King Over All Israel!
It pleased God to anoint David King over all Israel as He promised him.
God made it possible by removing everyone that would have constituted a hindrance to His plan.
First of all, He removed King Saul, David’s arch enemy. Second, He removed Abner Saul’s Captain. Third, He removed Ishbosheth,Saul’s son whom Abner anointed King over Israel in place of King Saul his father.
It was not David who killed all these people rather he wept and mourned over their death and killed the people who killed them except for Abner whom he cursed Joab for killing an innocent man.
Child of God, as God fought for David and gave him victory over all his enemies, God will fight for all His children and give them victory! You don’t need to kill anybody. God is the owner of life. If He wants to take any life in order to give you peace, He can do it. He has promised to give us peace by all means! Our part is to report the matter to God and hand it over to Him and rest it there in His care! He knows exactly what to do. Do not try to help God because He knows the matter better than you do! He will do exceedingly abundantly!
I believe that after David had killed Goliath, the heart of all Israel went after him but they dared not air it because of King Saul else they die! You know even Samuel feared King Saul’s wrath! This was evident when God instructed Samuel to go and anoint David King over Israel. Samuel told God in 1SAMUEL 16:2, “And Samuel said, How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.”
The time for David to come on board the throne was not ripe, so there was fear on every side! Everyone held his peace! When God had finished doing the needful Himself, the people of Israel came willingly without any opposition to David and asked him to be their king.
2 Samuel 5 verse 1 says,”Then came all the tribes of Israel to David in Hebron,…”
As you can see, there is no more division. David did not only rule over Judah which was only one tribe in Israel but the entire twelve tribes of Israel came to him on their own accord. No compulsion! David did not fight to win them over to himself but God alone fought for David and brought the people over to him.
I think the hearts of the people were yearning after David but they had restrictions! David and the people held their peace until God’s appointed time came! God delivered the throne into David’s hand effortlessly! God made all things beautiful for David in His own time!
According to Psalms 110 verse 1, ; David sat at the right hand side of God by doing the right thing. Not fighting for himself but committing the battle fully into the hand of the Lord to fight for him.
That same Psalms verse 3 says, “Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauty of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou has the dew of thy youth.”
People of God, we don’t need to fight anybody in this battle of life by killing those who oppose you. God is the owner of life! He knows how to handle human beings, everything in the world and its system. Do your own part by telling God about the challenges! Seek His counsel and obey His instructions! He will guide you and there lies the victory you need!
David always enquired from God before taking any step in battle. In this chapter 5 verse 19, when the Philistines came against him, he enquired of the Lord and the Lord asked him to go against them. He did as God instructed him and he discomfited the Philistines.
In Verse 23, David enquired of the Lord again when the Philistines came against him again; this time the Lord told him not to go up against them but gave him a strategy of which David obeyed and defeated his adversaries!
Let us learn from David the secrets of his all round victory! David has never lost a battle throughout his reign!
People of God, as God gave David victory throughout his life time in battle, He will give us victory all the time as we trust in Him in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name ! Amen!
