LUST AS AN ENEMY OF GLORY – PART 1
TEXT 📖📖 Romans 6:12,13,16, James 1:13-15, 1John 2:15-17
Glory to God for the grace to wait upon Him. Today we are trusting God to help us overcome another enemy of glory, called Lust.
Lust is a strong, inordinate desire to possess, satisfy or gratify one’s desires, especially when it is sinful to have such cravings. It is an ungodly appetite and lack of self control towards such appetite. Where lust is entertained it has capacity to control and take over its host (those who accommodate it). Many destinies have been jeopardized due to lust.
Amnon as Case Study:
_2Sam.13:1 – And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her._
_2Sam.13:2 – And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her._
_2Sam. 13:8 – So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes._
_2Sam.13:9 – And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him._
_2Sam.13:10 – And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother._
_2Sam.13:11 – And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister._
_2Sam.13:12 – And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly._
_2Sam.13:13 – And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee._
_2Sam.13:14 – Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.
Amnon ruined his life and that of his innocent half-sister because he did not exercise self control. He allowed himself to be controlled by the infatuation (lust) he has towards his half-sister. Amnon became like one of the fools in Israel. He was later killed by Absalom (2Sam. 13:28-29).
Adam & Eve as Case Study:
_Gen.2:16 – And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:_
_Gen.2:17 – But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die._
_Gen.3.6 – And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat._
_Gen.3.7 – And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons._
_Gen.3.8 – And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden._
The fruit was pleasant to the eyes. Eve failed to control her appetite. She ate of the fruit God commanded them not to eat. Adam also ate of the same fruit. Consequently, they both lost their glory. Their nakedness was revealed after the glory was departed from them. God’s glory has capacity to shield us from every reproach. We must do everything possible not to lose the glory of God upon our lives.
Prayer Points:
🙏🙏 Father, thank You for my redemption from the dominion of satan through the death and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
🙏🙏 I reject the spirit of lust as well as the attitude that fuels lust; whether inherited or acquired, I command you to leave my life now, in the mighty name of Jesus.
🙏🙏 Father, search my life and destroy every spirit and agent of lust, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
🙏🙏 Father, grant me grace for self control; remove every nature of lust in my life and cloth me with garment of self control, in Jesus name.
🙏🙏 Father, purge and cleanse my heart by the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ, from every defilement, in the name of Jesus Christ.
🙏🙏 Father, I yield my body, soul, and spirit to the influence of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name. Romans 6:16.
