THOUGHTS ON ISAIAH CHAPTER 44

This chapter can be summarized in three points.

First:
Verses 1-8 talks about God’s unconditional and unfailing love for Jacob and Israel His chosen race.
In verse 2, God calls Jacob ‘Jeshurun’. This is a term of endearment meaning ‘The Child of the Upright ‘ or The Beloved Israel, ‘The Upright One’ or ‘The Blessed One.’

In verse 3, God promised to pour water upon the thirsty and floods upon the dry land. He promised to pour His Spirit upon the seed of Jacob and His blessings upon his offspring.
God gave Jacob the assurance of his salvation by telling him, ‘Fear not and do not be afraid my servant Jacob.’

Second:
Verses 9-20
These verses talk about the vanity and absurdity of idol worship.
The confusion, the frustration, the foolishness and the destruction which the idol worshippers encounter.

The smith and the carpenter lack wisdom to know that they should have dominion over what they created; instead they bow down and worship the work of their hands. They pray to it saying, “Deliver me for thou art my god.” as seen in verses 12-19.

Third
Verses21-28
These verses tell us about the mighty acts of God and the assurance of God’s salvation to His chosen people.

NOTE : Verses 25 and 26.

Verse 25 says that, ” God frustrates the token of the liars and makes diviners mad. He turns wise men backward and makes their knowledge foolish. ”
This means that He can over rule, overturn, nullify or cancel the plan of the wicked against His children. That is why He says, “Fear not” to His children.

Verse 26 says, “That confirms the word of His servant and performs the counsel of His messengers…”
This means that when a child of God declares a thing in righteousness, God will establish it. Job22:28

Although the nation of Israel was largely apostate at this time, Isaiah prophesied of a future day when God’s Holy Spirit would be poured upon His people. He foretold of water being poured on the thirsty and floods upon dry ground. This prophecy applied to both physical nature and a spiritual outpouring.

LESSONS
1.An idol can never be the first because an idol needs someone to make it. An idol can never be the last because it wears out and breaks. But the LORD GOD of Israel is both The FIRST and The LAST. HE is completely UNIQUE and besides HIM there is no other God!

2. God’s love is unconditional. No matter the scope of your transgressions, when He forgives you, you are forgiven. But make sure that you do not continue to live in sin. Take for instance, God calling Jacob ‘Jeshurun.’

3. JEHOVAH HAS THE FINAL SAY!
TRUST IN HIM ALONE!
THERE IS NO OTHER GOD BESIDES HIM!

4. DO NOT WORSHIP ANY IDOL!
