Commentary On Matthew 6
Matthew 6 is a powerful chapter in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, offering timeless guidance on authentic spirituality, integrity, and priorities.
It begins by cautioning against practicing righteousness for public approval, whether in giving, prayer, or fasting (verses 1–18).
Jesus emphasizes that true acts of devotion should be done privately, seeking God’s reward, not human applause.
One of the most well-known teachings here is the Lord’s Prayer (verses 9–13), where Jesus provides a model for prayer that centers on honoring God, seeking His will, asking for daily needs, forgiveness, and guidance from temptation.
The chapter then shifts focus to materialism, warning against storing up treasures on earth where they are perishable (verses 19–21).
Instead, believers are urged to lay up eternal treasures in heaven, where their heart truly lies. Jesus addresses the power of focus, what we treasure and fix our eyes on shapes our inner life (verses 22–23).
Finally, Jesus instructs against anxiety about life’s necessities – food, drink, and clothing – pointing out how God faithfully provides for all creation (verses 25–31).
He concludes by encouraging believers to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, promising that all other needs will follow (verse 33). Matthew 6 calls for undivided loyalty to God, sincere faith, and trust in His provision over worldly concerns.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to seek You above all else. Help me to give, pray, and fast with a pure heart. Free me from anxiety and the pull of material things. May my treasure and trust always be found in You. Amen.

CHRIST holds all things together).
1 John 3:8
Power over all the powers of the devil
Previous chapters carefully detailed the growth of JESUS and how HE prepared HIMSELF for HIS purpose.
In Matthew 8 we find JESUS entering into and assuming HIS purpose and demonstrating exactly what 1 John 3:8 declares – healing the sick, calming the storm and casting out demons; these are all direct acts of destroying the works of the devil (sickness, fear, oppression, etc).
Matthew 8 is not just a series of miracles — it’s a portrait of CHRIST’s complete authority across all realms. Each scene reveals a different sphere under His dominion: disease, distance, the natural world, demonic powers, and the human will.
These miracles are clearly not just random works of kindness but the works of a man on a mission to undo satan’s grip on humanity in every realm
In the midst of all these miracles, runs a common denominator — Faith. whether with the leper, or the centurion or the disciples, we see a certain level of looking up to JESUS.
Another important area in this chapter is confronting believers with the cost of true discipleship. – a choice: will we follow HIM fully, without delay or divided loyalty?
IT IS A DECISION WE MUST MAKE.
Takeaway
To live and move with CHRIST in the realm of the supernatural is possible, but requires a price.
True discipleship means recognizing JESUS as LORD over every area of life, trusting HiM in every circumstance, and obeying HIM without reservation — even when following HIM means crossing into storms or uncomfortable places, looking up to HIM and knowing that HE can never fail
Prayer Point:
LORD JESUS,
1..open my eyes to see Your authority over every part of my life.
2. Teach me to trust You in sickness, storms, and spiritual battles,
3. and give me the courage to follow You without excuses.
4. Make me a true disciple indeed,oh LORD.
