Bible Commentary On Proverbs 24

Table of Contents

Through wisdom, a house is built, and by understanding, it is established; [4] By knowledge, the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches- Proverbs 24:3-4

The two verses featured from today’s chapter are one of the few places in scriptures where the words Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom appear together.

This is no coincidence when we consider that knowledge is the raw material needed for you to possess Wisdom.

Proverbs 2:6 teaches, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding…”

This presupposes that to fully operate in the dimension of wisdom required to build anything, the word from His mouth is important.

The onus is, therefore, on each person to make the knowledge of God’s Word his/her pursuit. Like we were previously taught, this involves reading, studying, and meditation.

In doing these, we gain understanding, which results in our ability to apply correctly the things we know and understand (which is the definition of wisdom).

Solomon understood this principle early when he was anointed king over Israel.

He recognised that his quest to build a successful kingdom and leave a legacy as David his father did required wisdom. He then made a choice to seek this by no other means but by siezing the opportunity of a blank cheque given to Him by God to demand anything from Him.

God who has promised to give liberally and without reproach to anyone who asks for wisdom (James 1:5) granted Solomon’s request. The full story is captured in
2 Chronicles 1: 10-12.

Times and seasons may have changed, but this critical endowment, called wisdom, as a factor that determines success in building any venture, has not changed.

Whether we are being built up as members of the body of Christ or building our homes, careers, or businesses, getting wisdom can not be relegated to the back burner.

The good news today is that no matter where we are in the journey to becoming all that God has purposed for us to be, and fulfilling our destinies, the same God who granted the request of Solomon is the same today, and is willing and able to give wisdom to whoever asks from Him.

Remember… Matthew 7:24-25 NKJV
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
