Why do the nations say, “Where is their God?” Ps 115:2(NIV)
This may just be the situation that confronts the body of Christ in our world today.
In the light of various degree of disaster, famine, affliction, etc around the world, not only nations are asking this question, but those that are His people who are not immune to hardship but are caught in the pangs of pain and lack wonder…. “Where is God in all of these?”
In spite of our individual or collective burdens, the Psalmist brings to the fore the need for us to stay focused on the attributes that make our God the AUTHENTIC God.
Whatever men call gods and are bowing down to today are futile, nothing compared to the One who is in heaven and does what pleases Him. He is the Omniscent, and He rules Omnipotently.
As the reading today throws shade at the futility and worthlessness of idols, so should every genuine Christian be wary not to place more value on tangible objects (such as possessions, financial assets, etc) than intangible realities (such as salvation, spiritual growth, etc).
The psalmist surmise that those who spend their time accumulating the things of this world are as foolish and empty as the idols themselves.
Hence, a call is mustered in verses 9-11 for all those who have put their trust in Jehovah. That help is on the way.
God has not called the seed of Jacob to seek Him in vain. Even if you are feeling alone, abandoned, isolated, weighed down with the issues of life, or struggling with self-worth, be encouraged that God keeps you in His thoughts. God remains our ONLY help, and He will bless us again.
How then can I reboot my confidence in God and defy the odds? Psalmist 126:1-3 outlines how God came through for Israel.
We know the background to this Psalm stems from Israel’s years in captivity. They were in that state for so long that when God’s deliverance came, they were dumbfounded.
The nations around them were first to acknowledge. “The Lord has done great things for them” (Ps 126:3). God will turn again our captivity, and our song then will be…..
“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, For thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake”
We will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD. Amen 🙏
