Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting
Psalms 139:23-24 NKJV
Known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world. Even when we cannot trace Him, our hearts can trust in Him.
In four stanzas of six verses, the writer of Psalm 139 displays the sublime beauty of the attributes of God:
1. Omniscience (verses 1-6)
2. Omnipresence (verse 7-12)
3. Omnipotence (verse 13-18)
We can then relate with the psalmist as he bursts out with a keen sense
of responsibility and awareness of sin when as he considered these like apostle Peter did in Luke 5:8.
Time and time again we allow ourselves to drift away from the Word of God, which is the only anchor we have distressing times such as the one Nigeria is going through. God’s Word is a treasure beyond compare and every believer finds in it a wealth beyond what the world can offer.
Studying, reading and meditating on the Word of God exposes us to encountering and interacting with not just the letter, but also the Holy Spirit who authored the Scriptures.
Through the Holy Spirit, God reveals to each person the things that eyes do not see, the things that ears have not heard and the things unattainable for the un-regenerated heart to understand.
The onus then is on each of us to allow the truth in today’s reading comfort us and give us hope as we realise that God knows us intimately (verses 1-3,15-16). God loves you more than you can imagine and is present with you in every place and in every situation.
Think of this, in Luke 5:1-8
Peter’s experience is akin to the situation many people are facing currently. He worked hard, sparing himself hours of sleep, he had the experience and the know-how of his trade as a skilful fisherman. He set out for a bounty toiling all night.
Yet, all his best effort amounted to nothing as he ended up without a reward for his labour that night. With disappointment, he gave up and began to wash his nets, he might as well go home.
But thanks be to God, Jesus was standing by, not oblivious of Peter’s need for fish (just as He standing by you, and is not unmindful of what your need of the hour). Jesus spoke to Peter and this was the game changer as he decided to *ACT* on His Word in spite of His previous experience
When times are hard, it is not uncommon for many to begin to interprete the Word of God by their experiences and draw negative conclusions.
However, our practice should always be to hold on to the Word of God as our reality and allow interprete our experiences with the Word of God. Peter’s decision to jettison experience and act on the Word brought him a great catch of fish from the same Lake Gennesaret where he previously caught nothing.
Brethren, with a Word from the Lord in whatever situation you may be facing, acted upon, your end will be better than the beginning thereof as it was for Peter.
Pray…Father speak your Word to me today. Let your Word bring me supernatural increase in this season in Jesus name. Amen
