THOUGHTS ON PSALM 47

THEME:”Universal Rejoicing for God’s Universal Reign.”

This chapter reminds me of this song:

Clap your hands all ye people

Shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

Clap your hands all ye people

Shout unto God with the voice of praise

Hosanna! Hosanna!

Shout unto God the voice of triumph!

Praise Him! Praise Him!

Shout unto God with the of Praise!

This Psalm is a hymn that celebrates God’s Reign as King over the earth. The Psalm also portrays a procession for the purpose of celebrating God’s Kingship.

This is most evident in the declaration that God has “gone up” with shouts and trumpet sound as seen in Verse 5 and now sits enthroned over the nations in verse 8.

Verse 7 is also a profound statement, “For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding. ”

This means that God can only inhabit our praise as it is recorded in Psalm 22 verse 3 if we praise Him with understanding.

We have to know the God that we praise that He is a Holy God. Verse 8b says, “God sits upon the throne of His holiness.”

One cannot wear a filthy garment and come to stand and praise this Holy God. God will not inhabit such a praise.

Verse 4 says, “He shall choose our inheritance for us…”

God loves us! He is our Father! He will always give us the best things of life.

Psalm 100 verse 3 says, ” Know ye that the LORD He is God: it He that has made us and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”

Psalm 23:1 confirms it, “The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”

In Jeremiah 29:11,

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end.”

John 15:16 says, Ye have not chosen me but I have chosen you, …”

So the LORD God our Father who has chosen us loves us and has our best interests in His heart! So child of God, be rest assured, trust the Father, allow Him to choose your inheritance for you and you will have the best whether in business, marriage or career, etc.

Reflection

God wants the praise of all people.

We should praise God with understanding of who He is.

LESSONS

When we allow God to choose our inheritance for us, there will be no room for regret.

PRAYER

Father, help us to praise you with understanding always.

Father, help us to trust You and allow You to choose our inheritance for us in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!

Thank You Father!
