Bible Commentary On Psalm 68 - Sanctuary of grace, Ikeja

Bible Commentary On Psalm 68

Psalm 12&14

Table of Contents

Theme: Celebrating The Faithfulness Of God And Victory Over His Enemies!

This is also the Psalm of David.

In this Psalm, David calls on God to deal with His enemies and for the righteous to rejoice in His triumph!

The first half of the Psalm ( to verse 18) reviews God’s historic acts on behalf of the Israelites progressing from the wilderness of Sinai to the conquest of the Promised land.

Verses 1-3, “Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered: let them also that hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea let them exceedingly rejoice. ”

Some of the commentators believe this Psalm is connected with the coming of the Ark of the covenant into Jerusalem as seen in 2 Samuel 6, celebrating not only that event but also the faithfulness of God to give Israel victory over her enemies and to make Jerusalem secure enough to bring the ark into the city.

Verse 6 says, “God setteth solitary in families: He bringeth out those which are bound with chains…”

The Israelites who were scattered abroad by the enemies due to constant wars, the LORD gave them victory over their enemies and they were able to dwell in their families again. They were able to go about their individual businesses, the singles got married and gave birth to children and so creating new families.

Verse 19 says, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.”

People of God in this harsh economy in Nigeria, our God will daily load us with the benefits of our redemption even as Jesus prays for us in Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day our daily bread.”

He will provide all that we need on daily basis.

Verse 35 says, “O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.”

In this time of economics down-turn in Nigeria, remember, the Lord is the One who gives strength to His people. He will give us strength to continue to make wealth as it is written in Deuteronomy 8:18. Let’s do our own part by not forgetting the LORD.

LESSONS

God is always faithful if we do our own part by keeping our covenant with Him.

As He was with David and the Israelites so is He here with us in Nigeria!

He will daily load us with benefits. Our daily provisions are intact.

He will continue to set the solitary in families.

He will continue to be our strength!

Thank You Father because You are our Strength. You will continue to give us power to make wealth even in this time in our nation in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name I pray! Amen!

Thanks Father!
