Commentary On Zechariah 10:1 NKJV
“Ask the Lord for rain In the time of the latter rain. The Lord will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, Grass in the field for everyone”
God is always constant (Ps 102:27). He is a responsible Father. Always has been, is right now, and will always be.
According to our chapter today, our responsibility is to ASK. Not to presume, or assume, but to ask of Him. It’s safe to say also that we have a blank cheque, it is “whatever you ask in His name….”(John 14:13-14) Halleluyah!
The epistle of James highlights the frustrations that result when we fail to ask. Further clarifying that when we ask and do not receive, we must look inwards to check if our motive for asking is right.
James 4:2-3 NKJV
“You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures”
Thus, the question of why one’s prayer is unanswered does not begin with interrogating God but must begin with the searchlight on our individual hearts. Does what I am considering as my expected outcome or my pleasure align with His will for me in this season?
In our reading today, there is an assurance that God will make the flashing clouds that give rain and grass in the field to everyone. This is equivalent to saying God will not fail on His own side.
Elijah is an example in this regard, as seen in James 5:17-18.
“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit”
In the full account rendered in 1 Kings 18:41- 45, we saw the posture of Elijah to his own prayer.
He already anticipated what the outcome would be (abundance of rain). This certainty was his staying power as he commanded his servant each time he came back with a contrary report to “go again.”
Brothers and sisters, this is the charge laid before us today to go again, not giving up, to persist, to give praying the attention it deserves.
Patient in waiting, and with joyful hope that there will be a manifestation. Thank God for the opportunity God gave us in the last LFF Prayer Conference, equipping us for a life of endless possibilities in the place of prayers.
Our Lord Jesus is the Cornerstone (Isaiah 28:26), the tent peg (Isaiah 22:23), and the bow for battle. He is ready to crush His enemies and anything that rises up as an opposition to our destinies. Our redeemer is strong, stable, and trustworthy in all ways. In Him, our victory is already won.
Let us therefore continue to pursue the knowledge of the Lord over any other thing, standing our watch in the place of prayer, for He will indeed come unto us like the rain. Like the latter and former rain to the earth. Amen 🙏
Commentary On Zechariah 14
Theme: When The Kingdom Comes
Main Verse
Zech 14:9
And the LORD shall be KING over all the earth; In that day shall there be one LORD and HIS name, one.
Supporting Verses
Luke 11:12
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done as in heaven, so in earth
Zechariah 14:21b
No more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD
Rev 11:15
The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our LORD and of HIS CHRIST.
A careful study of Zechariah 14 reveals that it is not just the last chapter or the end of the book of Zechariah, but it is a full vision of what shall be when GOD’s kingdom fully manifests.
How GOD because of HIS love and faithfulness, will stand and fight for His people and bring them to victory as they raise HIS banner throughout the earth.
This chapter, in a nutshell, captures a future where:
– GOD alone ( no idol, no world powers) is a conquering KING, not in Israel alone, but across all nations.
– Every remaining trace of mixture ( rebellion, compromise) is removed from GOD’s people and HIS house
– There will be a transfer of wealth from the gentiles, to HIS people and a judgement upon all that had previously offended HIS people
– Even bells on horses and cooking pots are holy – signifying every day life is consecrated to the service of the LORD.
In this chapter also, we discover the end goal of GOD’s dealing with HIS people is HIs everlasting reign. We see this through all the previous chapters, right from chapters 1 to 13. we see HIS faithfulness and Love.
HE will not destroy HIS people though they have sinned against HIM, rather, from a call to repentance, through to the visions, the rebuke of false shepherds, the wages of the shepherd, the piercing of the messiah, to the fountain that cleanses, and leading us to chapter 14, where GOD now reigns; no more opposition, the people are now holy and the earth is all HIS again.
LessonÂ
The journey through Zechariah is actually a mirror of our faith walk – from selfish religious empty practices to realization that we need GOD, to conviction to cleansing, to hope, to holiness. And activating prophecy to Power.
The book of Zechariah should awaken in us, the hunger to be part of this glorious future and take us through all the processes we need to arrive at that. Then we get to realize why JESUS asked us to pray for the kingdom to come; we don’t just sit down, fold our hands, and wait for the kingdom to come, rather, we pray for it to come and take it by starting to live right, NOW.
Prayer Point
LORD, thank you for your word in Zechariah 14. Thank you, LORD, for your love that has plans for a glorious future for me.
LORD, take me through the whole journey and cleanse me of every mixture, until every part of my life bears the inscription “ HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD”
LORD, let your kingdom come into my heart, my home, my country
Make me a vessel of your HOLY reign, Oh LORD, in the mighty name of JESUS, I pray thee, Amen
