Joel 2:28-29 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit”.
Are you a Christian who has been yearning for God to speak to them? Do you desire to know God more through the leading of His voice? Are you trusting God for great spiritual growth and your first prayer is that you hear God’s voice? If yes, then you need to do the following;
Study The Word Of God (Psalm 119:105)
First, it is very important you give enough time to the study of the written Word of God; the bible assures that if you give your time to study the Word of God and confess it regularly, you shall be successful (Joshua 1:8), the success guaranteed here is not just in your physical endeavor or just financial but also in your spiritual walk with God.
Have A Close Relationship With God (Psalm 5:3-6, Psalm 42:1-5)
Also, before you can hear from God, you must have first given your life to Christ, and then have an active communication routine with Him, preferably daily routine, to achieve this, you can set up a particular time when you will pray daily, and after praying, ensure to listen to hear the voice of God, don’t always be in a rush to leave the place of prayer as communication is a two way thing, when you pray to God, be silent to listen for a response from Him, this way you can hear what He has to say to you.
Have Faith in God (Hebrews 11:1)
Just as it is impossible to please God without faith, (Hebrews 11:6) it is quite impossible to hear from God if you don’t believe that He can hear you in prayers and that He can answer you back, the bible says those who come to God must believe that first, He exists, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, so Faith is an important factor in your journey to hearing the voice of God, another scripture says when you pray, you must believe that He heard you and He will answer you, (Mark 11:24),
you must trust God that as you desire to hear His voice, He will speak to you, it may not be through audible voice but through many other ways such as through dreams or visions, through circumstances around you (Numbers 22:21-39), through godly counsel from godly people (18:1-25) or even through the inner voice of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26)
Be aware that God can use different ways to speak to you, you only need to believe that He will speak to you, and be spiritually sensitive to recognize His voice and leading each time (Mark 9:23)
Fasting and Prayer (Ezra 8:23)
In your journey towards hearing the voice of God, you must be committed to fasting and prayers, Jesus Christ clearly told His disciples when they were trying to heal a man and it seemed difficult for them to perform the healing, that this kind goeth not but by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21), this helps us to understand that there are some level in the spirit realm one cannot attain except by prayer and fasting, and one of those spiritual milestones is hearing the voice of God, to hear His voice you need to be committed to subduing your flesh through fasting and prayers
Fasting and prayers will help you connect easily with God by sharpening your spiritual antenna, and lowering the noise in your mind so you can hear the voice of God.
When God Speaks Obey His Instruction (Hebrews 3:7):
To continually hear the voice of God, It is very important that you obey every little instruction the Lord gives you, obedience to God’s instruction opens up the way for spiritual growth, so also if you don’t obey certain instructions God gives you, it may hinder from further hearing His voice.
In conclusion, hearing the voice of God is very fulfilling as it guarantees one of victory, divine direction and all round success.
