THEME: AND THE FIRE FELL
TOPIC: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE FIRE
TEXT: 1Kings 18:36-39
_Elijah, at the time of the sacrifice, spoke out, “LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done these things at your command.
37: Reply to me, O LORD, so that these people may know that you, LORD, are God and that you are restoring the desires of their hearts.
38: Then the fire of the LORD descended, it consumed the offering, the wood, the stones, the earth, and even lapped up the water in the trench.
39: Seeing this, the whole population knelt down and said, “The LORD—he is God!” It’s the LORD; he’s God._
Today’s readings include a continuation of the story begun in the previous section, in which Elijah shut the skies for three years and six months. Thus, given the context of the history of the church in Nigeria, it is crucial to recognise the importance of this act of faith and its substance in the present day.
No longer can we rely on the ceremonial worship of God at alters whose value and approval was dependent on influence, artificial ambiances, and location, rather than the scorching effect of the workings of the Holy Spirit in our souls. Let it be enough to say that the place for God’s movement and the fire of his love is in our hearts, not on physical altars.
When preaching to the Athenians, Paul centred his remarks on Acts 17:23c-28:
_”Lord of heaven and earth, who made all things visible and invisible, who hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should see his face; and know that he is God; and that he dwelleth not in temples made with hands, neither is worshipped with the hands of men, as though he needed anything; for he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all._”
We need the fire to fall on the alter of our hearts so that our lives might become the centre of attraction, change, and resurrection as we take heart and strength from the Mount Camel example and express a departure from the old for the new, that is the Act 2:1-4 experience, that we be so full of the Holy Spirit that men need not travel far to find Him.
Oh that the strength and miracles created by our worship, fasting, and prayers might be sufficient to win men over to our God.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father! We thank You for yet another day that You have given us. We thank You for grace and renewal of strength in Jesus name.
2. O God! let Your Fire Fall and silence every false altar raised to cause division in the body of Christ in Nigeria and the World at large in Jesus name.
3. In the mighty name of Jesus, we destroy all forces put in place by wicked leaders contending with the prospect of LFF, the Church at large in Jesus name
4. Father, let your Fire Fall and burn every sickness, diseases, failure and struggles in my life and family in Jesus name.
5. Father, in this 2023 general elections, by the Authority given to Your Church, we enthrone the right person that will do Your biding upon the Throne of our Nation – Nigeria in Jesus name.
6. Father, for the Peace of the Church and the Nation, let your Fire Fall to expose and judge all the wickedness of terrorists and their sponsors in Jesus name.
7. Pray in the Spirit for the next 5 minutes as the Lord gives utterance.
8. Thank God for the answered prayers.
