Scripture: Proverbs 6

“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest”

The book of Proverbs speaks a lot about the value of hard work, and for good reason. The difference between success and failure, between potential disappointment or fulfillment is often hard work.

The ant is wise and worthy of imitation because its diligence is in built, without having to be told to work hard by any commander, overseer or ruler.

There is indeed a correlation between opportunity and timing. Wasted opportunities cannot be made up when times gets hard, and so the folly of the sluggard in failing to make preparation for the future soon becomes evident when his poverty and need overwhelm him. For the ant, in summer and winter, the work gets done! Many Christians today have become burdens to their fellow brethren because they fail to imbibe this important principle of hard work.

Paul emphasises this same principle in 2 Thess 3:8-10….*nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

This shows us that there is no law that forbids diligence or hardworking, we are therefore admonished to make hay while the sun shines, awake from every slumbering as we apply diligence in preparation for the future we envision.

In this month of Divine Direction, may the Lord lead us to Green pastures. Amen 🙏
