THOUGHTS ON DEUTERONOMY 15

This chapter is centred on the following.

1. The LORD’S release: That is letting your slave go free after serving you for six years. On the seventh year, you send him or her away to go and live for himself or herself.

2. Giving to the poor or needy the brethren.

3. The sacrifice that is acceptable to the Lord.

In verse 1, The LORD commanded, “At the end of every seven years, thou shalt make a release.”

This shows that God does not want His children to serve people for a lifetime because He knows the importance of freedom.

God also instructed that the servant that is given freedom must not be released empty. He must not be sent away without being empowered to stand on his own.

The poor and needy brethren must not be overlooked because if they cry out to the Lord in their suffering, the Lord will be angry with the rich brethren among them and shut their windows of blessing against them.

Concerning giving to the Lord, verse 21 says, “And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God.”

This means that we should not give God anyhow thing.

If you are giving a physical cash offering, make sure you select the best and the cleanest notes and give to God.

Remember, it is when we give an acceptable offering that we are blessed !

PRAYER

Father, help us to always do the right thing at the right time. Help us to obey all Your commands so that You may bless us in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ! Amen!
