THOUGHTS ON DEUTERONOMY 22

This chapter can be sumed up in 5 Headings.

1. Caring for your brother or neighbour’s lost and found properties.

2. Do not change your gender by dressing.

3. Preservation of birds and humans’ lives.

4. Conducts between a man and a woman.

5. Laws governing marriage.

Our God is a loving, caring and principled God. So detailed and so caring even to the life of a bird that He commanded that no one should take away a bird with her nestlings. But he may take away the nestlings and leave the dam that is the mother bird so that she can continue to reproduce .

1. God commands us to be our our brothers keeper by caring about their lives and properties. We should save the lives of their animals and take their lost things, keep safe and deliver them back to the owner. No stealing!

2. If you are a man be a man in your conducts and in all ramifications. Do not change your appearance by dressing or by behaviour. If you are a woman, behave like a woman and dress like a woman. No transgender!

3. When you build a house, put railings to avoid accidents.

4. Fornication and adultery are punishable by death! This is serious! This keeps me thinking; how human beings can be so difficult to control even with this kind of strict measures against whoredom in those days; people could still practice harlotery! Death sentence by stoning was hanging over every man and a girl or lady whose virginity is broken outside marriage!

If such a law is carried out now, I think it will help to curb the level of promiscuity and sexual immorality in our environments. It will help to instill fear in the hearts of the people and they will behave well by force!

5. Divorce after marriage is punishable by law. The punishment can be stoning to death or by paying a ransome! That is why the marriage creed is, “Till death do us part.” So before marriage, Look very well before you leap! There is no reason going into marriage with someone you don’t love! You will spend your days in pains and regrets throughout your lifetime!

PRAYER

Father, help us to do Your will always not by compulsion but willingly because we love You in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
