Thoughts on Deuteronomy 7
“….You shall not be terrified of them; for the Lord your God, the great and awesome God, is among you…..” Deuteronomy 7:21 NKJV
The God of all ages has set His love upon you and I. Not because of any deserving merits on our part to earn it. And in case you and I are deceived into thinking too highly of ourselves,
verse 7 is a reminder of the reality of our states before God lavished His love upon us and changed the narratives of our lives. We only need to remember where we were before and where we now are.
In yesterday’s chapter, Moses commanded Israel not to forget God when they possess the land. Sad to note that today, some of us have allowed possessions, or the pursuit of them to blur our visions of our heritage in Christ- i.e.Possessors of heaven and earth!
Romans 8:35 posed a question, who shall separate us from the love of Christ? We have a definite answer to this in Rom 8:38-39….”For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”
What this means, is that no external influences or circumstances are strong enough to cut us off from consistently enjoying the blessings that are already ours as a result of God’s love for us which is unwavering and undiminished.
On His part, God is faithful and commited to every promise He made to us. Notwithstanding the present economic hardships in our nation, God, through this chapter today is assuring us that He is still committed to what He has promised to LFF members for the year 2023. And if case your case is likened to Verse 17
If you should say in your heart: “These nations are greater than I, how can I dispossess them?
wondering if the great expectations or goals you have for this year is still feasible or achievable? Then verses 18 -19 is for you my brother/sister.
Choose to remember His faithfulness to you in times past. Choose to remember how He showed up in your life when you started the journey quite alright, but now seemed stuck, all alone in the middle of nowhere, choose to remember how He brought you out of that horrible pit of darkness and wickedness.
Remember what He says in Deut 6: 23 “Then He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in, to give us the land of which He swore to our fathers”
The word of God is awakening us to realise today that the only WHO, that can separate you from His love is YOURSELF. And this is simply by the choices we make.
Brethren, it is true times are hard, but God is not taken unawares. This is no time to abstain from physically showing up in fellowship or readjusting our priorities by putting off church activities designed to build us up spiritually.
What He said to Israel, He is still saying to us today in Deuteronomy 7: 9 “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
Surely, there is no greater love than this.
