THOUGHTS ON NUMBERS 30
This chapter is about the statutes which the Lord commanded Moses concerning a man and his wife and a father and his daughter in her youth still in her father’s house in regards to making a vow or a bond.
Here, the Lord gave specific instructions that vows and bonds should not be altered no matter what!
In Verse 2, “If a man vows a vow unto the LORD, or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceeded out of his mouth.
The same is applicable to a woman married or unmarried.
The vow or bond can only be cancelled by the husband of a woman if when he heard her making the vow and objected immediately.
But if her husband keeps quiet about the vow, it becomes binding. It must be done as spoken!
The same is also applicable to a young girl in her father’s house. If her father hears her making a vow or a bond and does not say anything about it at that moment, the vow or the bond is binding on her but if the father disagrees immediately, the vow is nullified.
LESSONS LEARNT
1. Wives should not make a vow or sign a bond without the consent of their husbands.
2. Young girls should not vow or make a bond without the knowledge of their fathers. Especially in the area of relationships, girls should not get themselves involved without informing their spiritual and biological parents!
3. One should not be in a hurry to make a vow. Think about it and pray about it before making a vow or signing a bond.
May God help us to always do the right thing in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
