THOUGHTS ON NUMBERS CHAPTER 9

This chapter talks about the following :

1. Observing The Passover Feast.

2. Second chance for those who could not participate in The Passover Feast.

3. Death penalty for anyone who fails to observe The Passover Feast.

4. God’s guidance by the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire.

5. Moses consulting God before taking any decision on the matter concerning the children of Israel.

1. THE PASSOVER

In verses 2 and 3 , God instructed Moses and the children of Israel to observe The Passover Feast at the appointed time and season. This shows that God is happy when we mark and celebrate the victory He has given us giving Him thanks and praise. God values record keeping. Look at the specifications He gave in Verses 1 and 3; verse 1b”In the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt…”

In Verse 3a, “In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it at His appointed season:”

2. THE SECOND CHANCE.

In verses 6-11, “There came certain men who could not observe The Passover Feast because they were defiled by a dead body to Moses and Aaron to know their stand.” They were asked to observe their Passover Feast in the second month of the year on the same fourteenth day of the month in the evening.

3. PENALTY FOR DEFAULTERS.

Anyone who didn’t participate in The Passover Feast without a cogent reason was to be cut off among the people of Israel and his sin will be upon his own head.

4. THE PILLAR OF CLOUD AND THE PILLAR OF FIRE.

From verse 15 to 24, God guided His people Isael through the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. These two symbols were used by God to lead them throughout their journey to the Promisedland. As long as these two symbols remain in a particular place, there the people will tarry, whether a day or two, one month or a year. They don’t move an inch without God’s instructions.

5. MOSES ALWAYS ENQUIRES FROM GOD

Verses 7 and 8 reveals that Moses would not take a decision on any matter concerning the children of Israel without consulting God.

LESSONS LEARNT

1. God is pleased when we keep dates and records and celebrate the victory He has given us giving Him thanks and praising Him.

2. God is not happy with those who don’t celebrate important events such as Christmas and Easter.

3. People who violet God’s ordinances will encounter death penalty.

4. God’s guidance is crucial in our daily lives. We need God’s presence all the time!

5. We should not take any decision without God’s instructions.
