Read A Chapter A Day (RACAD) Thoughts On Genesis 42

Verse 1 ” Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?”
Verse 2, ” And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.”
Then verse 5 says, ” And the sons of Israel came to buy corn among those that came: for the famine was in the land of Canaan”.

When I read this verse, the question that came to my mind was, “Is this not the Promised Land (Canaan) that is flowing with milk and honey?” Why is it now experiencing famine? Could it be that when they sold Joseph to the Egyptians, a curse came upon them and the blessing of God left them and their land and travelled with Joseph to Egypt.

The Bible says that God was with Joseph wherever he went and whatever he did prospered even Potiphar was blessed because of Joseph.

The ways of God is past path finding! In the process of time God turned things around to bring about the fulfilment of the Prophecy of Joseph’s dream.

The elders did bow before the younger one. I believe at this time Leah was still alive because Joseph’s dream was that the eleven stars, the sun and the moon bowed down to him. Rachel who was Joseph’s mother died at child birth. So Leah was the mother that saw Joseph in his glory in the land of Egypt and Jacob his father.

What happened to Joseph here is beyond human being ‘s understanding. He had a dream but didn’t know how, when and where it will come to pass.

As God did to Joseph, that is how He will do to everyone whom He has given a dream! You may not know how, where and when, but there shall be a performance of God given dream in the lives of His children in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name!

In Verse 12, when Joseph said to his brethren, “Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.” I believe he was just trying to probe them.

Look at the drama in verses 21-24.

Verse 21,” And they said one to another, we are very guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.” Verse 22, “And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? Therefore, Behold also his blood is required. “
Verse 23, “And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spoke unto them by an interpreter.”
Verse 24, “And he turned himself about from them and wept…”

Joseph had the right to avenge himself of his adversaries but because he feared God as he said in Verse 18, he did not harm them. Joseph had the mind of Christ!
