This morning very briefly I will like to share with you the topic: “Taking God Serious”
If God truly is God then lets take Him serious, Our God is a powerful God who always wants us to prove Him and see, He would want you to try Him in order to see if He is real and able to do what He says He will do.
So my challenge to you this day is if God is God then you need to take Him seriously.
Let’s read:
1 kings 18:20- “20 So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken”.
This passage talks about prophet Elijah speaking on a similar topic as I am discussing with you today: If God is God, He will surely answer by fire (as in the days of Prophet Elijah), If we are praying, and the God we are praying to is not answering, then we need to ask questions.
Christianity to me is practical and not psychology, its not people trying to find solution to something or trying to work things out, it’s also not about trying to manage things, you don’t try to work Christianity, Christianity is practical.
God works all the time, if God promises a thing, He will surely do it, if He doesn’t do it, you need to ask questions and check yourself.
If God assures you of divine healing then trust God and believe Him that He can do that which He has promised, and if He is yet to do it, there may be reasons why He is not doing it but you can’t explain God away, by saying things like: “maybe today is not the day of God’s power let me try Him tomorrow, maybe the power will fall tomorrow”.
For you also, Christianity needs to be really practical, if God says He can heal me then I should believe Him, also if He says He desires that I prosper and be in health even as my souls prospers (3 John 5) then I need to believe Him cause that’s what its supposed to be. I should be a reflection of the reality of God’s Word.
Matthew 18:1-5, explains to us how God wants us to relate with Him.
God was simply saying in this scripture that when it comes to serving Him it must not be too complicated, you do not need to understand the Greek or Hebrew meaning of anything to serve God. God will come to you in His simplicity and He will walk with you in practical terms.
A friend once described a situation to me, He said: “if they ask you, are you born again, are you a child of God, the answer should be a straightforward answer of yes or no, but when someone begins to beat around the bush in answering the question, then it means something is wrong because when you have a relationship with God there should be no debate about it, you must be able to say boldly that God is your Father”
Your Christianity is expected to be practical, our faith is supposed to be practical, when God says a thing believe and do what you’re supposed to do, don’t complicate the matter.
Truly, we are expected to grow in the faith, but you must be able to believe God’s Word as it is, Scripture says for as many as believe in my name he has given the power to become the sons of God, another scripture says for God so loved the World that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 1:12, John 3:16).
Whosoever simply means whosoever, so, whosoever believes will have eternal life means, regardless of who you are, just believe and you shall have eternal life.
You may be wondering why is it that as Christians we don’t experience the reality of Gods Word? For example, The bible says you shall be healed and all sickness will be healed yet you are still sick, or maybe you layed your hand on the sick yet nothing happened, they still remained sick,
You may also be wondering why is it that Christianity is not the way the bible says it should be sometimes,
There’s a scripture I find very interesting, Matthew 26:11 Christ said for you have the poor with you always that is, there will always be poor people, why is it that there will always be poor people?
It is because there will always be people who will not do what God has instructed them to do in order to get out of poverty. However because you are a child of God this shall not be your portion in Jesus name
Galatians 6:7 says God is not mocked for what a man sows he shall reap, if God tells you to do certain things please do them for they will yield great results to you. You must learn to sow good seeds, not the seeds of bitterness, anger or strife, sow the seed of mercy and good works etc.
Interestingly, Some of the things you are doing today will help secure your future even if you are not aware if it.
God is a great rewarder and none of your good seeds that you have sown will go without yielding fruits.
Jeremiah 29:11- “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”.
Think about this: Can God actually do anything he wants to do for you? Why does he then ask you to do some certain things?
Know this, He’s not asking you to do those things because he doesn’t have the capacity to do them, but you are given that instruction for a purpose and it is for your own benefit.
So, take God seriously, believe in Him, go to that place He has sent you, do whatever he has asked you to do. It’s indeed a privilege that He chose you for His purpose.
