Romans 9:15-16 “For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. (16)So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy”.
Today it’s about praise and thanksgiving! God has been merciful to us! If you don’t appreciate the mercies He has shown you in time past, I don’t know what you expect in the future, wherever you are, in your own way, appreciate the Lord for His great mercies He has shown you.
The Merciful God…
You know we can’t understand nor comprehend the statement :The Merciful God.
Our God is so great, He’s so awesome, He’s so mighty and faithful and He does everything good
The meaning of the Merciful God is the God of love and compassion, He’s plenteous in compassion.
Lamentations 3 says “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed”, because His compassion do not fail, His love cannot be held back. So whatever you are going through the mercy of God is readily available for you.
Do you know that His mercy doesn’t even come with conditions, except that we must trust and obey God? I mean total obedience.
Now look at the story of Cain. I am looking at the mercy of God through Cain.
Cain killed his brother and God cursed him, Cain then went to God and said what do you want me to do Lord, you cursed me so badly now everywhere I go people will want to kill me. God then placed another curse on the people who would want to kill Cain. That can only be as a result of the mercy of God (Genesis 4).
It can only be God’s mercy because the Bible says whoever sheds blood must be killed, but Cain appealed to God, and God declared a curse for those who will want to kill Cain
Let’s consider Esther also, she was just an orphan taken to her uncle’s house, a nobody, but God showed her mercy and she found favor before Hegai the eunuch that was looking after her, they asked all ladies what they would have but Esther said nothing
Esther didn’t know what to ask for, probably due to her lack of exposure, the other girls were asked to mention what they wanted in order to prepare them for the pageantry but Esther said whatever her Eunuch deemed fit is what she wants (Esther 2:15).
She was eventually chosen to be the queen of Shushan amongst several other women, this can only be as a result of God’s mercy.
She was also renowned in the land at that time as God used her greatly to deliver her people, and to establish His purpose in the land.
All these can only happen as a result of God’s mercy.
Joseph is another bible character that found mercy in God’s sight, despite all he went through in prison, at the house of Potiphar’s, the mercy of God prevailed over Joseph’s life because Joseph knew his God (Genesis 41).
Naomi is another person who enjoyed God’s mercy, though she had given up and gone back to her land after she had lost her husband and children, but God already had a plan because of His mercy, at the end her daughter in law married one of the most important persons in the land. Boaz and Ruth later gave birth and Naomi could rejoice again (Ruth 4).
I encourage you today, Have faith in God, rejoice in Him always, be confident in the Lord no matter your situation, trust His mercy to reach out to you and there shall be a transformation in your life in Jesus name.
