Vessels Unto Honor By Pst. Festus Ekogiawe
Matthew 25:21: “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord”
This day we will be considering the topic: “Vessel unto honour”
I ask a question what kind of vessel are you? ask yourself also: “what kind of vessel am I?”
This is a personal question you should answer within yourself.
2nd Timothy 2 verse 20-21 says: “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.”
So what vessel are you I ask again? Before we go further, let’s check what vessel means,
A vessel is usually a container, bowl, or anything that can preserve something.
The biblical meaning of vessel is someone whom God has called for a purpose, a vessel also means someone that is receptive.
As believers in the house of God, we are vessels. While you are reading this, know that you are a vessel before God but the question now is what kind of vessel are you?
What value do you place on the things of God as against things of this World? But if it were to be a jewelry box, the owner won’t hesitate to get back to church for it. but if it were to be a jewelry box, the owner won’t hesitate to get back to church for it.
This just means lots of people don’t place much value on the things of God as much as they do Earthly treasures.
A vessel is that which God has called, sanctified, and prepared for a good work.
Sad enough, not everyone in the church are vessels unto honour.
Judas iscariot for example who was a disciple of Jesus Christ was not a vessel unto honor even though, he followed Christ (Matthew 26:14-16).
On the other hand, Elisha followed Elijah, and as a vessel of honor, Elisha got the double portion of Elijah’s anointing.
Though Gehazi, in the same way followed Elisha but instead of getting double portion of Elisha’s anointing Gehazi got leprosy.
Gehazi was among the sons of the prophets just as Elisha was among the sons of the prophet that followed Elijah but Gehazi left the presence of Elisha with incurable leprosy.
Think about this: Can God depend on you as a vessel of honor?
In Matthew 25:25-30, I believe we are familiar with the story of the master who distributed talents to his servants and afterwards went on a journey.
He gave one 5 talents, another 2 talents and finally he gave the last servant, 1 talent. The servant who was given 1 talent decided to bury his talents, but the other 2 servants went to trade with the talents and got extras as profits.
The master came back later to discover that some made profits with their talents but to the servant that was given one talent, he hid his talent and decided not to trade with it, his master was very angry with him and so he decided that the one talent should be collected back from him. That servant that decided not to use his talent is not a vessel unto honor, though he followed this master.
A vessel unto honor is a man God that is carrying out God’s assignment; in reaching out to people most especially in these end time.
The Lord is coming to reckon with us, as He said in his Word- Revelations 22:12 “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be”.
When the Lord comes what vessel will he find you to be? Some will be told to enter their rest while others will enter into eternal condemnation.
Make up your mind this day to be a vessel unto honor!
