I want to share with you why it is important to thank God for giving you victory.
Sometimes our gathering to thank God, becomes a ritual, so we often just prepare our thanksgiving offering to give to God, but we are not really thankful. However, if you look around and think deeply you will see that of a truth you are actually privileged of God to still be alive.
You know sometimes the things that are happening to people are not very far from you but by God’s grace you just find that Psalm 91 is working in your life but you may not realize it. You may just go on with life as if, you’re doing your own thing and God is doing His own thing, you may think nothing is happening.
Psalm 91:7 says a thousand shall fall by thy side ten thousand by thy right-hand side, but they shall not come near you, only with thy eyes shall you behold and see the reward of the wicked.
My understanding of that scripture is that you will be hearing the story of other people, how they got into challenges, kidnaps, sudden insanity, and other problems of life, but it will not come near you.
There’s a story of a single lady who was a medical doctor, she was very successful but at a time the lady just decided that she needed help and got a driver, a house help and she has a security man with her in the compound, after some time, the three employers conspired against her and killed her to steal from her.
After killing her they tried to make it look like thieves came and she was killed in the process of the robbery.
She was buried recently.
Last week was my Grandma’s birthday and one of Grandma’s neighbors came to see us amid Grandma’s birthday celebration, and pleaded that she wouldn’t be able to stay for the party because she was going to the funeral of the lady I mentioned earlier, apparently, it was discovered that the lady who was killed by her domestic staff was a relative to Grandma’s neighbor.
So I’m trying to tell you that some of the evil things the enemy is doing is not so far from you, but you may not even know and thank God for protection, many are just cruising through life not realizing what God has done.
Another story was told about a gentleman who told God that he couldn’t see what God was doing for Him, so he challenged God and said if truly you are doing something for me, I want you to show me, prove yourself.
Afterward, the man stood up and went out, and as he was going, he started dodging, before he could take a few steps he would dodge, then God asked why he was dodging, he responded and told God that many arrows were flying along his way, hence his dodging, then God made him understand that the fact that he was not seeing arrows physically in time past, doesn’t mean the arrows were not there, but God has been protecting him from all evils.
So you also should stop asking God “What have you done for me” because the truth of the matter is that
The Bible tells us in 1 John 4 that whatsoever is born of God overcomes the World, we have the victory that overcomes the World, which is our Faith, so the fact that you are alive today is a testimony that God is faithful and merciful.
Therefore we truly need to be thankful and the Lord made me understand certain things, in Hebrews 10:7 the Bible says: “then I said behold I have come in the volume of books it is written of me to do thy will oh God”.
I want to tell you that as long as you are alive, you are playing certain script that has already been written by God concerning you, part of the problem many people have is that they don’t know the script that God has written concerning them and therefore they are always struggling to know and see what is going to happen next, just as it is when you’re watching a movie filled with suspense and you’re wondering what will happen next.
Imagine you had someone beside you who has watched the movie before you, the person will likely calm you down by telling you what’s next.
That exactly is the nature of life, the script has been written concerning you, God has already given you the victory, but you still have to live through it
You may want to ask, “So if God has already written the script why don’t I just cruise through life into the promise of God”?
You can’t just cruise through life into the promise of God even though God has already written the script, there are many things that you must go through to get to the script ending so that the package will be complete, there’s a process that God takes each and every one of us through, but He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11- “I know the thoughts that I think towards you says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end”
God is simply saying “I know where I am taking you but you need to go through the process”
There was a story told about two young men who received a prophecy each, one was told that he would be a king and a great leader, and the other one was told that he would be a servant”
So the one who received the prophecy to become a king decided to relax and did nothing about his life, but the one who was told that he would be a servant decided to work hard to make his life better, he labored and worked hard, after many years, the one who was supposed to be a servant going by the prophecy became a king, and the one who was supposed to be a king, became a servant because he did nothing about his life.
I am saying in essence that God has already purchased for us the victory but it is left for us to enter into the victory that has already been purchased
It does not excuse us from the fact that we have to go through the process.
I can assure you that if the Lord gives someone a sure word that he is going to live to a ripe old age, and he decides to go and stand in the middle of a major and busy expressway, such a person is very likely to die, despite the sure word from the Lord. I am simply saying that the fact that God has made a promise to you does not mean you will not play your part in making sure the promise comes to pass.
God has a way of working all things together for good, for everyone who loves Him and is called according to His purpose.
When I was in professional practice, I used to do a lot of international traveling, initially, I used to fly economy but after a while, I began flying business class very often, so one day someone was ranting, saying there’s no difference between first-class business, and economy, after all, all passengers are going to alight from the plane at the same destination, at the same time. So I told him the reason why he is talking that way is because he does not understand.
However, all passengers will indeed take off and land simultaneously. But not in the same body condition.
By this example, I’m saying that if God gives you a sure word you can decide to follow the rules, follow the leading of the holy Ghost, line upon line, precept upon precept, following what the Lord says and it will take you to that expected end, in the “right body condition”.
In another way, you can decide to be stubborn, refusing God’s ways and instructions. God will allow you to go your way, but eventually, you may still get to the destination that God has promised you but not in the same physical condition. The decision is yours, but God has given to you, the victory. This is what I want you to hold on to.
Some of the sure words from the Lord are:
Psalm 46:1-3
1] God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. [2] Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; [3] Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. 4] There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
Psalm 30:5
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.
