2 KINGS 1
Ahaziah was the son of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.
He succeeded his father Ahab.
What would one expect from a child whose mother and father were employers of the prophet’s of Baal?
He had little or no knowledge of the God of Israel. Of course, he would go the way he was trained up. He could not depart from it now that he was old.
That was why Elijah’s confrontation to him was of no consequence. He rather fought Elijah back by sending captains and their fifty soldiers to fight and kill Elijah than repenting and seeking help from the God of Israel whom he did not know or regard.
I believe that he knew very well that his mother Jezebel was judged by the God of Elijah as well as his father that was why they died and dogs licked their blood.
I believe that his own judgment has started already when he fell from the lattice of his house.
God is a jealous God! He would not keep quiet and watched Ahaziah go to enquire from an idol of Ekron despising Him and His prophet Elijah in Israel where he was made king.
If Ahazia was repentant, he could have asked his messengers to go and call Elijah to come and pray for him, but his heart was evil. He continued in the sin of his parents and the sin of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
Sending his captains and their fifties was for war! They didn’t know that Elijah had a superior army! He called fire to consume them!
The third one was wise, he went with entreaty, that was why God asked Elijah to go and tell Ahaziah his sin and his punishment.
When Elijah showed up before king Ahazia, he could not do Elijah anything neither did he repent of his sin. Death penalty was already hanging on his neck so he could not reverse it.
All these things happened to show that Jehovah has the final say!
Whenever the cup of iniquity of the wicked is full, he or she cannot escape the judgment of God!
PRAYER
1. Father, we thank You for the gift of salvation and eternal life in Christ Jesus!
2. Thank You that You did not allow us to have any other god besides You! Because idols are the works of man.
3. Father, we pray that let Your judgment always come on the wicked who want to attack Your children as You fought for Elijah in this chapter in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
