Our very first contact with this church reveals a faith that is sincere. They knew that their new life ( from worshipping idols to serving the true GOD) is all about GOD. Something we also need to work out in our own faith.
The Thessalonians did not just:
– claim faith
– speak love
– talk hope
Their Christianity was:
– visible
– costly
– and steady.
1. Their faith produced action — they responded to the gospel decisively.
2. Their love produced labour — they served sacrificially.
3. Their hope produced patience — they endured suffering without quitting.
Paul was not praising emotion, gifts, or noise. He was commending substance, the sincerity in their faith, which he acknowledged in the key phrase: “In the sight of GOD.”
This is a church that understood the gospel and had an encounter with the power of the gospel. It showed in their transformed character and attitude.
Their gaze was fixed on GOD. Their motivation was not applause. Their lives were being lived before an audience of One, – before GOD.
Even more striking about this church is that — they received the gospel: “in much affliction” (v6)
The Word did not come in convenience. It came in pressure. Yet affliction did not choke their faith, rather it proved it. Their suffering:
– became their testimony.
Their endurance
– made them examples (v7).
Their transformation
– made the gospel sound out (v8).
Lessons
True Christianity is not:
– talk without action
– love without sacrifice
– hope without endurance
It is a life that is completely sold out to GOD. All you do is unto GOD, not man.
It is a life that produces fruit even under pressure, because it is lived before GOD, and not men.
Prayer Point
Oh LORD, let my faith be active, my love sacrificial, and my hope enduring, not for human praise, but in Your sight.
Let affliction strengthen my testimony, not silence it in the mighty name of JESUS, Amen.

Reflections On 1 Thessalonians 3
Today, we study the First Epistle of Paul to the Thessalonians Chapter Three, where the “FAITH & DEVELOPMENT of the people of Thessalonica became a concern for the Apostle, following their acceptance of the Lord Jesus as saviour.

The Apostle & Team got negative and then positive “Status Reports” of the “converts” and “brethren” in Thessalonica!
This is a “FOLLOW-UP” function.

We thank God for the GIFT of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. However, there is “PROGRESSIVE SANCTIFICATION” must follow salvation.
A major TAKEAWAY from the studies on ELECTION is that “beneficiaries” of the Grace of God still require “HELP” and “PRAYERS”

For this is God’s will, your sanctification: that you keep away from sexual immorality, that each of you knows how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not with lustful passions, like the Gentiles, who don’t know God.

Consequently, anyone who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
Today’s chapter is a timely reminder on how anyone who is born of God should walk as we come to terms with an important truth about SANCTIFICATION. It is not a doctrine of a particular denomination or church, rather, it is the will of God for every believer.
For so long, many have confused the true meaning of the word for demands which are typified and limited to the outward appearance. Whereas Sanctification is the process of being set apart for God, having being cleansed from sin, and progressively transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
The process is initiated at salvation and “continued by the Holy Spirit”. It involves a change in heart, mind, and behavior, growing in grace “throughout a believer’s life”
While Paul in the previous chapters made glowing remarks about the love, steadfastness and growth of the
Thessalonian church which had brought encouragemnt to him and the other churches, he did not leave them of this important doctrine in letting them know the responsibility attached to their salvation.
Although love is the basis of our relationship with God, every believer must live in the awareness of what God’s love is, and what it’s not. There are things we must separate ourselves from because of His name that we bear, especially in this age of information where daily one is inundated with all manner of messages across various channels.
While some preachers have good motives underpining their exhortation, others come from error and impurity with an intent to deceive. It is through consistence in working out our salvation with fear and trembling that the Holy Spirit enables us to discern and not be deceived.
As a result result, our Sanctification does not stop at separation from certain things, but also involves dedicated to something
We may have separated from the former lusts, but the salient question we should seek to answer from our reflection on today’s chapter is, “what are the things I am dedicated to as it pertains to my relationship with God?”
Thoughts On 1 Thessalonians 5.
Introduction
In the context of 1 Thessalonians 5, The apostle Paul teaches about the return of the Lord and the necessity of being prepared for His return, as what follows is either everlasting bliss in heaven or unending misery in hell.
The Day of the Lord: Old Testament Echoes
• Amos 5:18-20 and Joel 2:1-11 speak of a sudden, unavoidable day when God acts in judgment.
• Isaiah 13:6-8 uses the same labor-pain image Paul employs in v 3.
• For those in Christ, that day holds rescue v 9; for the unprepared, ruin v 3.
Church Leadership and Honor v 12-13
• Early churches commonly met in homes led by elders (Acts 14:23).
• “Esteem them very highly” guards against the jealousy Corinth displayed 1 Cor 1:11-12.
• A peaceful family spirit v 13 allows leaders to serve and members to thrive.
Do Not Quench the Spirit v 19
• “Quench” pictures dousing a flame. Stifling fresh promptings, especially prophetic words, dims spiritual vitality.
• 1 Cor 14:1-3 balances eagerness for prophecy with orderly testing.
Test, Hold Fast, Abstain v 20-22
1. Test everything—compare with Scripture Acts 17:11.
2. Hold the good—cling to what matches God’s character.
3. Abstain from every form of evil—complete break, not partial retreat.
Lessons
• Be prepared for the day of the Lord 1 Thess 5:1-11: The return of Jesus will be sudden and unexpected, like a “thief in the night”. Believers should not be caught off guard but instead remain “sober and alert,” living with faith, love, and the hope of salvation as spiritual armor.
• Encourage one another 1 Thess 5:11: Because believers are not destined for wrath but for salvation, they are encouraged to build each other up.
• Respect spiritual authority 1 Thess 5:12-13: Believers are instructed to recognize, respect, and hold in high regard those who work hard, lead, and admonish them in the Lord.
• Cultivate Community Harmony 1 Thess 5:14-15: The church should be a place where people are patient with everyone, admonish the idle, encourage the faint-hearted, and help the weak.
• Avoid revenge 1 Thess 5:15: Members must not repay evil with evil, but always seek to do good to each other and to everyone.
• Maintain a Godly attitude 1 Thess 5:16-18: Three key directives for daily life are to “rejoice always,” “pray without ceasing,” and “give thanks in all circumstances,” as this is God’s will.
• Honor the work of the Spirit 1 Thess 5:19-22: Believers are warned not to “quench the Spirit” or despise prophecies, but to test everything and hold fast to what is good, avoiding every form of evil.
• Trust in God’s faithfulness 1 Thess 5:23-24: The chapter concludes with a blessing, emphasizing that God is faithful to sanctify believers completely—spirit, soul, and body—until the coming of Jesus.
