REFLECTIONS ON GENESIS 14
Genesis Chapter FOURTEEN recorded the captivity and rescue of Lot and the introduction of Melchizedek, King of Salem and the Priest of the Most High God who revealed to us that The Most High God is THE POSSESSOR OF HEAVEN & EARTH!
Key Scripture
(Genesis 14:22)
“But Abram said to the King of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the Lord God most High, the POSSESSOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH”z
Reflections
“THE CREATOR & POSSESSOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH”
Brethren, there is no controversy, “The earth is the Lord’s and ALL ITS FULLNESS, THE WORLD AND ALL THOSE WHO DWELL THEREIN (Palms 24:1)
Mortals, men and women are always to be reminded of this TRUTH.
Indeed, the Lord Almighty also declared:”The Silver is mine and the gold is mine (Haggai 2:8).
God asserted his sovereignty over all earthly resources!
What’s This to us?
NOT FROM SATAN!
Nothing is from Satan!
“Every good gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights”
(James 1:17)
THE “DISTRIBUTOR”
The “POSSESSOR” has the prerogative to “distribute”/ give power to get wealth
(Deuternomy 8:18)
THE BLESSING
The Blessing of the “POSSESSOR” brings wealth without adding sorrow with it. (Proverbs 10:22)
SOURCE / CHANNELS
The POSSESSOR is the “SOURCE”! We are
“CHANNELS”!!
Hence, Jesus commanded: “ABIDE IN ME….APART FROM ME, YOU CAN DO NOTHING” *Jn 15:4-5)
KINGDOM PROVIDER
Whatsoever we give to the Kingdom (Offerings & Tithes) are REALLY FROM THE “POSSESSOR”
(1 Chronicles 29:14)
FAITHFUL STEWARDS
Since we are CHANNELS & STEWARDS, our primary requirement is to be found FAITHFUL (1Cor. 4:2)
ACCOUNTABILITY
Indeed, the “POSSESSOR” ultimately expects ACCOUNTABILITY for HIS RESOURCES.
Yes, we shall all give account. (Rom.14:12)
TRUE RICHES
The “POSSESSOR” also has Prerogative and criteria to entrust “TRUE RICHES” to stewards that are TRUSTWORTHY in handling worldly wealth (Luke 16:11)
TRUE RICHES ARE MORE VALUABLE THAN MONEY!
WHY BOAST?
If indeed, we are stewards of the “resources” of the REAL POSSESSOR!.
1 Corinthians 4 verse 7 asks: “For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did receive it, WHY DO YOU BOAST AS IF YOU HAD NOT RECEIVED IT?
Conclusion
Our “SUCCESSES” and POSSESSIONS are due to God’s blessings not just personal efforts! (Deut 8:18)
PRAYER
Father, we ask for the RIGHT MENTALITY to be FAITHFUL STEWARDS and when “the Lord shall return”, we shall receive DIVINE COMMENDATION of “WELL DONE, GOOD SERVANT; BECAUSE YOU WERE FAITHFUL IN A VERY LITTLE, HAVE AUTHORITY OVER TEN CITIES”
We pray in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen. (Luke 19:17)
Thoughts on Genesis chapter 15
KEY SCRIPTURES
Genesis 15:1 EASY
After this, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision. God said, ‘Do not be afraid Abram. I will keep you safe. I myself will give you many good gifts.’
But Abram said, ‘Almighty Lord, there is one gift that I want. I still have no children. When I die, Eliezer of Damascus will receive everything that I have.
Psalms 138:8 NLT
The Lord will work out his plans for my life— for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me
Joshua 21:45 NKJV Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass
In the preceding chapter to today’s reading, Genesis chapter 14 revealed Abram won a major victory over 4 powerful kings and right after, what would have been a handsome reward from the king of Sodom was also declined by him.
Possibly, after these, he feared a reprisal attack from these kings and this may have precipitated the thought in his mind, of who will inherit all he had if anything happened to him…….Thus, we can deduce that Abraham was at a low ebb at this time.
Chapter 15 opens up with God reassuring Abram that on account of whatever it was that brought fear and doubting to him, He, God, was mindful of Him.
As his Protector, and Rewarder, God not only told Abram the promise again (earlier made in Gen 12:2, Gen 13:14-15), but He confirmed it with an illustration.
To you child of God who is afraid, or still in doubt about what His plans are because of your present circumstances, do not cast away your confidence. Because of His UNFAILING love, God has not abandoned you.
Be encouraged that He will work out His plans for your life. Resist the temptation to think your service to God is in vain. No! For God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Heb 11:6b)
Replace fear or doubting with a determination to seek out His word with more diligence through a consistent reading, meditation and studying of the Bible.
As the Holy Spirit brings conviction to you through these words, faith arises and your hope in God will be restored.
The word of God came to Abram and He believed. Take a posture to believe God again as His word comes to you. A sure word has already come to us as members of this house, through His servant at the just concluded convention, that we have a new beginning in LFF.
Remember, we are still in our year of Ebenezer and His help will meet you at your point of faith. Abram believed God, it was accounted to him as righteousness. May our righteousness spring forth to all nations in Jesus name. Amen 🙏
REFLECTIONS ON GENESIS 16
INTRODUCTION
In a move born out of desperation and a longing for a family, Sarai, Abram’s wife, gives her maidservant Hagar to Abram in the hopes of bearing a child. This decision sparks a series of events marked by conflict, divine intervention, and the birth of Ishmael, the forefather of a great nation.
CHARACTERS AND MOTIVES
Sarai – exhausted by delay, she tries to secure God’s promise by human strategy.
Abram – passive here, he “listens to the voice of Sarai,” an echo of Adam listening to Eve Gen 3:17.
Hagar – young, foreign, and enslaved, yet the first person in Scripture to receive an annunciation and a personal promise of offspring.
The Angel of the LORD speaks as God (“I will greatly multiply your offspring”) yet distinguishes Himself (“the LORD has heard”). Later appearances: Gen 22:11, Exo 3:2, Jud 6:11.
THE GOD WHO HEARS AND SEES
Hagar learns two names of God:
1. “Ishmael – God hears.”
2. “El Roi – God who sees me.”
She is the only person in Genesis to bestow a divine name, underscoring God’s care for the marginalized Psa 34:15; Lk 1:46-55.
FAITH, WAITING, AND CONSEQUENCES
Promise first given: Gen 12:2.
Delay: a decade of silence tests faith Heb 6:12-15.
Shortcut: human solutions produce strain—Abram’s house divides, setting up later conflict Gen 21:9-21
Yet God folds even missteps into His larger plan Rom 8:28.
PROPHECY OVER ISHMAEL
“His hand will be against everyone…” (v.12). The description depicts energetic independence, not moral condemnation. Ishmael fathers twelve princes Gen 17:20; 25:13-16.
This chapter is a vivid reminder: God’s promises stand, His timing is perfect, and His eyes are on the least likely—even an enslaved Egyptian girl in the desert.
PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS
1. Waiting tests trust; rushing ahead complicates life.
2. God’s ear and eye reach the forgotten—workers, immigrants, single mothers.
3. When conflict rises from poor choices, humble return and submission (v.9) often opens the path to healing.
4. Names matter: every time Abram called “Ishmael,” he was reminded that God hears.
PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to pray for patience and trust in God’s timing, especially in areas where I am waiting for your promises to be fulfilled. Also, for wisdom and discernment in decision-making, seeking your guidance above all.
I pray for those who feel marginalized or mistreated, that they may encounter your presence and comfort. I thank God for your faithfulness and grace, acknowledging your ability to redeem my mistakes for your glory in Jesus name, Amen.
Thoughts on Genesis 17
Introduction
This chapter serves as a hinge in the Abraham story, stamping the covenant with a visible sign, giving fresh names, and fixing the timetable for Isaac’s birth. It looks backward to God’s original promise, outward to the nations, inward to the heart, and forward to Christ, the ultimate Seed through whom the nations of the earth are blessed.
God Almighty appears to Abram, revealing a profound covenant that will forever alter the trajectory of Abram and his descendants. The covenantal promises and the introduction of circumcision as a sign of this everlasting agreement underscore God’s faithfulness and Abraham’s willing obedience.
Divine Names in the Passage
God Almighty (El Shaddai) is used here for the first time since Gen 35:11. In patriarchal times the name emphasized God’s power to give life to barren wombs and protect the family line (Gen 28:3).
LORD (YHWH) underscores the personal covenant keeping God who appeared in Gen 12 & 15.
The Everlasting Covenant
Gen 12 introduced promise, Gen 15 ratified it with a dramatic blood path, and Gen 17 formalizes an ongoing relationship that God calls “everlasting” (olam). Psa 105:8-11 and 1 Chron 16:15-18 echo this language centuries later, showing that Israel’s writers viewed the Abrahamic covenant as unbreakable.
Responses of Faith and Obedience
Abraham’s immediate action (17:23) shows faith expressed through obedience. James 2:21-23 later uses Abraham’s life to illustrate that genuine faith produces works. The pattern: revelation → response → reinforcement of relationship.
Foreshadowing Christ
Everlasting Covenant—Gal 3:16 points out that the promise was ultimately to “one Seed…who is Christ.”
Name Changes—Christ gives new names and identities Rev 2:17.
Circumcision of Heart—Fulfilled in the new birth Rom 2:29
Promised Son—Isaac’s miraculous birth anticipates Jesus’ virgin birth; both involve divine initiative, announced in advance, fulfilled at God’s appointed time.
Practical Implications
1. God keeps long-range promises; delays refine faith, not erase destiny.
2. Identity comes from God’s declaration, not self-definition; He renames and repurposes.
3. Obedience is timely “that very day” (17:23). Delayed obedience risks diluted faith.
4. Covenant relationship carries both privilege and responsibility; signs matter because they witness to faith.
5. God’s blessings often include family lines; praying for future generations aligns with His covenant heart.
Prayer
Dear Lord, I thank you for your everlasting covenant and the promises you have made to us. I pray for clarity and strength to live out the identity and purpose you have given me. I ask for a heart of obedience and faithfulness, to follow your commands.
I pray for wisdom and grace to influence future generations positively through my faith and actions.
A Reflection on Genesis 18
THEME
God’s Faithfulness, Intimacy, and Justice
Genesis 18 reveals a God who draws near to His people, keeps His promises no matter how impossible they seem, and remains just while still responding to intercession.
KEY VERSE
“Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” ( _Genesis 18:14_ )
This verse captures the heart of the chapter: God specializes in what looks impossible to man. This goes with current saying “What God can not do, does not exist.
REVIEW
The chapter unfolds in three major movements:
1. Divine Visit to Abraham (Verses 1–8)
God appears to Abraham in the form of three visitors. Abraham responds with warmth, humility, and generous hospitality.
2. The Promise Reaffirmed (Verses 9–15)
God declares that Sarah will have a son within a year. Sarah laughs in doubt, but God gently confronts her unbelief, emphasizing His power.
3. Abraham Intercedes for Sodom (Verses 16–33)
God reveals His plan to judge Sodom due to its wickedness. Abraham boldly intercedes, asking if God would spare the city for the sake of the righteous. This shows a deep, relational dialogue between God and man.
Lessons:
1. God Desires Relationship, Not Distance
God didn’t just send a message—He came. This shows His desire for closeness and fellowship. Your walk with God is meant to be personal and intimate.
2. Hospitality Matters
Abraham’s kindness to strangers turned into an encounter with God. Sometimes divine opportunities are hidden in simple acts of generosity.
3. God Keeps His Promises — Even When We Doubt
Sarah laughed, yet God did not cancel the promise. This teaches that God’s faithfulness is not dependent on our perfect faith.
4. Nothing Is Too Hard for God
What seems biologically, financially, or spiritually impossible is still within God’s power.
5. Intercession Is Powerful
Abraham stood in the gap for Sodom. This reveals that God invites us into His plans through prayer.
6. God Is Both Merciful and Just
He listens to intercession but does not ignore sin. His justice is balanced with mercy.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being a God who comes close and cares deeply. Help me to trust You even when situations seem impossible. Strengthen my faith where there is doubt. Teach me to be hospitable, to love others, and to stand in the gap through prayer. May my life reflect Your mercy and Your truth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
THOUGHTS ON GENESIS 19
THEME
MERCY AMID JUDGMENT
MAIN VERSE
GENESIS 19:29
“ And GOD remembered Abraham and sent Lot out
SUPPORTING VERSES
Proverbs 22:3
A wise man foresees evil and hides himself
Isaiah 55:7
Let the wicked forsake his way
Luke 17:28–30
As in the days of Lot
1 Thessalonians 5:22
Abstain from every appearance of evil
This chapter is like a mini bible. It contains all the salient pointers to life.
1. Mentorship Leaves an Imprint
– Lot’s hospitality reflected Abraham’s influence.
– The people we walk with silently shape our values and responses, positively or negatively
2. Indecision Can be Destructive
– Even after warning, Lot lingered until the angels dragged them out.
– Emotional attachment to sin can make people delay obedience
3. Human Wisdom vs Divine Instruction
– GOD said flee to the mountain, but Lot negotiated.
Human reasoning often complicates simple obedience.
4. Sodom Was a Warning of Judgment
The fire and brimstone called down here reveals that GOD’’s judgment is real.
– Sometimes Mercy will not override judgment
5. Warnings Are Often Ignored
– Lot’s sons-in-law thought he was joking.
– Like today, many live carelessly, mistaking GOD’s patience for approval.
6. Intercession Matters
“GOD remembered Abraham…”
– Lot was preserved because someone stood before GOD for him.
– Never stop praying for loved ones.
7. Flee Evil Completely
The instruction was urgent:
– Escape
– Don’t look bacK
– Don’t stay near destruction
– Believers are called to flee evil, not manage it.
8. Leaving Sodom Physically Is Not Enough
. Lot left Sodom, yet traces of Sodom remained in his family.
A person can leave an environment while still carrying its mindset.
– Environment Shapes Convictions
– Years around Abraham influenced Lot positively.
– Years in Sodom influenced his daughters negatively.
– What people constantly tolerate can begin to look normal.
– The company and environment around us silently shape our conscience.
Takeaway
GOD warns before judgment
– Mercy is available, but must not be abused
– Environment influences character deeply
The safest place is complete obedience and separation from evil.
PRAYER POINT
1. LORD, help me identify and lee every appearance of evil
2. Deliver me from spiritual compromise and wrong influences
3. Give me sensitivity to Your warnings
4. Show mercy to our loved ones and draw them to safety.
THOUGHTS ON GENESIS 20.
THEME: Divine Protection and God’s Faithfulness.
This chapter details Abraham’s move to Gérar, where he again lies, claiming his wife Sarah is his sister to King Abimelech, who then takes her.
God intervenes by warning Abimelech in a dream that he is a dead man because Sarah is married, resulting in the return of Sarah and Abraham praying for the healing of Abimelech’s household.
KEY DETAILS:
▪︎Deception: A repeat of what Abraham did in Genesis 12.
▪︎Abimelech’s Innocence.
▪︎Prophetic Role: God identifies Abraham as a prophet.
▪︎Resolution: Abimelech returns Sarah and gives gifts to Abraham while God heals Abimelech’s household of barrenness.
This chapter highlights a failure of faith by Abraham, shortly before the promised birth of Isaac yet showcases God’s faithfulness in protecting Sarah.
LESSONS
Partial or half truth is dangerous!
God’s love is wonderful! He overlooked Abraham’s mistakes and still protected Sarah from being defiled by Pharaoh and Abimelech.
PRAYER
Father, we thank You for Your unconditional love for Your people! In spite of the weaknesses of humanity, You still love and protect human beings from harm! Accept our thanks in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
Thank You, Jesus!
REFLECTIONS ON GENESIS 21
Genesis Chapter TWENTY ONE recorded the birth of ISAAC and the dismissal of HAGAR and ISHMAEL from the Household of Abraham.
Key Scripture
(Genesis 21:13)
“YET I WILL ALSO MAKE A NATION OF THE SON OF THE BONDWOMAN, BECAUSE, HE IS YOUR SEED”
REFLECTIONS
“Consequences of Decisions & Choices”
VALLEY OF DECISION
Brethren, what determines your course of action in the “Valley of Decision”?
Four Options
MAN’S GOD’S PLAN
PERFECT WILL
PERMISSIVE WILL
MAN’S PLAN
God testified that when men unite, they will achieve their “PLAN” (Genesis 11:6)
GOD’S PLAN
Almighty God has a PLAN for each of us:”TOWARDS A FUTURE & AN EXPECTATED END”
(Jeremiah 29:11)
TWO “WILLS”
Romans chapter 12 verse 2 admonishes that “ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and PERFECT WILL of God.
In essence, there is “PERFECT WILL” and a “PERMISSIVE WILL”
Lessons
GOD’S TIMING
Genesis Chapter 16 recorded that Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham to procreate apparently because God’s promise “was delayed” This decision resulted in the birth of ISHMAEL.
UNUSUAL OUTCOME
The Household of Abraham experienced issues as a result of SCORN of ISAAC by ISHMAEL!
Sarah, backed by God, orchestrated the DISMISSAL of Hagar and Ishmael, despite the PAIN to Abraham.
FAITH & PATIENCE
Abraham & Sarah initially believed the PROMISE of God but got tired of waiting hence, SELF-HELP
Remember, it is with Faith & Patience that we “INHERIT THE PROMISES”
(Hebrews 6:12-15)
Conclusion
Abraham, Sarah and Hagar deviated from the “PERFECT WILL” of God and produced ISHMAEL.
Almighty God allowed this development!
This represented the PERMISSIVE WILL OF God.
GOD OF MERCY
Brethren, the Mercy of God prevails over judgment hence the scenarios allowing the FREEWILL OF MAN in some circumstances.
Despite the waywardness of Abraham, the Lord still permitted a NATION out of ISHMAEL- What a merciful God!!
CONSEQUENSES
Deviating from the perfect will of God has CONSEQUENCES-As Abraham, Sarah, Hagar and Ishmael experienced the hard way.
