THOUGHTS ON HOSEA 8

THEME: The Punishment of Israel for Rejecting God and Embracing Idolatry.

KEY SCRIPTURES
Hosea 8: 7
“For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind…”

This means that the consequences of sinning against God is always in multiple destructive proportion.

Ecclesiastes 10:1
“Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.”

This means that God is calling all of us, His children to a life of perfection as He said to Father Abraham in Genesis 17:1
“I am the Almighty God; walk before me and be thou perfect.”

Let us watch out and avoid those things that we do and we call them, “Little sin,” but not realizing that they can mar our reputation as Born Again children of God.

This chapter details God’s condemnation of Israel for their covenant-breaking and idolatry, warning of impending judgment.

It highlights Israel’s sins, such as setting up kings and idols without God’s approval and rejecting what is good.

The chapter foretells the consequences of their actions, including being pursued by enemies and suffering destruction.

Essentially, it is a summary of Israel’s spiritual and political failings and the resulting judgment they will face.

This is also a dramatic call to repentance and a stark warning to the nation of Israel as the Prophet Hosea blows a metaphorical trumpet to warn them of the consequences of their sins.

LESSONS
People of God, sin has a negative ripple effect. Let us be mindful of our actions towards God and towards our fellow human beings, if we don’t want to reap whirlwind for sowing wind.
Let us beware of the little foxes that spoil the vines.
Songs of Solomon 2:15

PRAYER
Father, have mercy on us, if there is anyway we have broken our covenant with You and take us back to our first love for You!
Father, help us to walk before You and be perfect in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen!
