Bible Commentary On John 10-15
John 10:28
And I give unto them eternal life: and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand
Supporting Verse
John 10:29
My father, which gave them to me, is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my father’s hand.
Psalms 32:8
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with my eyes
Isaiah 41:10
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying. This is the way, walk ye in it, when you turn to the right and when you turn to the left
The book of John is a book of revelations. Each chapter reveals a dimension of JESUS that HE wants us to embrace. In Chapter 10, HE reveals HIMSELF as the good shepherd. In previous chapters, we’ve seen HIM revealed as the word, the light, the bread, the compassionate, the healer, the provider, the saviour.
And it is not just rhetoric, HE has good works to prove these revelations right. So when HE says HE is the good shepherd in chapter 10, it is easy to accept based on the revelations in the previous chapters. HE has a testimony and is qualified.
And in Verse 28, HE points out the level of HIS commitment towards the sheep –
– to give them eternal life,
– that they will never perish
– no man can pluck them out of His hands
and for emphasis HE repeated it again, this time involving the father, “No man can pluck them out of HIS father’s hands”, showing that HE and HIS father are committed to the security and protection of the sheep.
And HE explained who HIS father is – HE is greater than all.
Who are the sheep, HE is referring to here? As many as are willing to hear HIM and follow HIM.
In this chapter, we can see that the religious leaders who ought to know better were busy looking for faults instead of embracing such an amazing love.
Same as today, as many as are willing to hear HIM and follow HIM are HIS sheep. Being HIS sheep is not by ordination or position or by church attendance; JESUS made it very clear, being HIS sheep is a function of hearing HIM and obeying HIM. That is how HE knows HIS sheep.
Lessons
1. JESUS, the good shepherd, is committed to providing the very best for HIS sheep
2. We have dual assurance of protection and security from both the father and JESUS CHRIST.
3. There will always be the devil using all manner of tricks to deny us access to eternal life and to try and snatch us out of GOD’s hands
4. TO access eternal life and not be snatched from the hands of the LORD, we must be HIS sheep.
5. His sheep are those who not only recognize the voice of the shepherd above all other voices, but are also obedient to follow
6. Am I a sheep?
Prayers
Dear LORD, thank you for such great love you have towards me. Thank you for being my shepherd. Grant me the grace to love you back by listening, trusting and obeying you in the mighty name of JESUS CHRIST, Amen
Bible Commentary On John 11
Theme: Jesus’ Power over Death, Resurrection and Eternal Life through Faith in Him and the Importance of Trusting God’s Timing and Purpose.
This chapter recounts the raising of Lazarus from the dead, a pivotal miracle performed by Jesus.
After receiving news that His friend Lazarus was ill, Jesus delayed His arrival, and Lazarus died four days before Jesus finally reached Bethany.
Jesus then raised Lazarus from the dead in a spectacular event that led to many people believing in Him while also prompting the religious authorities to conspire against Jesus, fearing His growing influence.
Key Events:
▪︎Jesus Receives the News that Lazarus was ill.
▪︎ Jesus’ Response: “The illness is for the glory of God!” So He delayed His visit.
▪︎ Jesus’ Journey to Bethany: It was dangerous for Jesus to go to Bethany at that time because the Jews were plotting to kill Him!
▪︎ Martha’s Grief and Faith:
She mentioned to Jesus that His delayed visit has led to her brother’s death.
▪︎Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead!
▪︎Political Reaction: This miracle leads many to believe in Jesus. It also causes the chief priests and the Pharisees to fear Him. They worry about Romans intervening, so they plot to kill Jesus.
Lessons
When we put our trust in God, His Timing can never be late for us.
His purpose for our lives will bring glory to His Name!
Let us believe in Him and trust Him!
Prayer
Thank you, Father, for we know that You will make all things beautiful for our lives in Your own time for the glory of Your Name through Jesus Christ our Lord! Amen!
Thank you, Jesus!
Bible Commentary On John 12
Today, we study the Book of John chapter Twelve, where Jesus declared that: “If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honour”
Reflections
“Serving Jesus”
Key Scripture
“He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honour.”
(John 12: 25-26)
Brethren, serving Jesus involves a PROCESS prescribed by HIMSELF with a COST and REWARDS which include “HONOUR” by the Father!
The Process
The process of serving the Master includes:
1. Following The Lord
2. Staying with the Master
3. Gaining Eternal Life
The Cost
There is a cost to serving Jesus:
1. Sacrifice
2. Dying to self
3. Carrying one’s cross
(Matthew 16:24-26)
The Reward
According to Isaiah 45 verse 19, the sons of Jacob are not serving the Lord in vain, hence serving Jesus surely has rewards which include:
1. Eternal Life
2. Being with Jesus in glory
3. Beholding the glory
4. Crowns on the day of Judgment.
(John 17:24)
Conclusion
Brethren, it pays to serve Jesus!
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Josh. 24:15)
Prayer
Father we pray that your mercy keeps us to reign with you in glory. Amen
Bible Commentary On John 13:14 NKJV
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet
Philippians 2:5-7 NLT
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form
Yesterday’s reflection on John chapter 12 featured Honour from the Father as one of the rewards for serving Jesus (John 12:26).
As we move on to our chapter today, we come to terms with an important lesson on true Servant-hood.
The Lord had on previous occasions sought to teach the disciples its true meaning, but they seem not to have learnt.
And so as His departing becomes imminent, and because of His love for them, He literally demonstrated what He all along had been teaching.
John 13:1 reveals to us that Jesus having loved His own, HE LOVED THEM UNTO THE END.
This is not so much referring to a period of time, but the extent to which the Lord would go and His readiness to do the most humble service on the behalf of those loved by Him.
Despite His divinity, authority and coming glory (alluded to in vs 3), Jesus humbled Himself to take the place of a servant to wash the disciples’ feet.
He did this to rest their argument about who would be “the greatest” among them (Luke 22:24).
Earlier, He had rebuked this kind of spirit by setting a little child in their midst and stating that they had to become as little children and not seek to lord over each other (Mt 18:1-10).
He had also rebuked this spirit on other occasions (Mt 20:20-28, Mk 10:35-45)
Years had gone by now and they had not yet learned their lesson on this point. The Lord was seeking to get rid of this passion for worldly honour and dignity.
He knew this would have wrecked the foundation of the church after His departure if He had not succeeded. He left His disciples with an instruction TO WASH ONE ANOTHER’S FEET.
In today’s church, this instruction seem to have been relegated to the background as the body of Christ is filled with men and women whose passion is the pursuit of human honour and recognition, for self exaltation or the desire to lord it over others.
Many seek eminent titles so they can be served, rather than serve others and for the who ones who serve, it is majorly on their terms.
The Master laid aside His garments to take on the duty of the lowest slave. Even Judas, who He knew would betray Him was not excluded from this service, He did it for them all. Dear Sir/Ma, what robe or tonga are you wearing that cannot be laid aside to serve? Selah.
Today, as Scripture brings to our consciousness the meaning of true servant-hood, let no one deemed it beneath his/her dignity to perform the most menial tasks for others. Ultimately, servant-hood is a disposition of the heart and spirit , which expresses itself in concrete actions. May God grant us more grace. Amen
Bible Commentary On John 14
Jesus As The Way
John 14:6 states, Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’ This verse underscores the exclusivity of Christ as the only path to God.
The Promise of the Holy Spirit
In John 14:16-17, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit, saying, And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The Holy Spirit is our helper and guide.
Peace in Christ
John 14:27 offers peace that the world cannot give: Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.
The Father’s House
Jesus speaks of preparing a place for us in His Father’s house (John 14:2-3), providing hope of eternal life and a future with Him.

Thoughts On John 15
The True Vine And The Vinedresser
Jesus declares, I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser (John 15:1). This establishes the roles within the relationship: Jesus as the source of life and God the Father as the caretaker.
Abiding in Christ
Jesus emphasizes the necessity of remaining in Him, stating, Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me (John 15:4).
Abiding in Christ is essential for spiritual vitality and fruitfulness.
Bearing Fruit
The purpose of abiding is to bear fruit. Jesus says, By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples (John 15:8). Fruitfulness is evidence of true discipleship.
The Role of Pruning
God prunes every fruitful branch to make it even more fruitful (John 15:2). Pruning, though sometimes painful, is necessary for growth and increased fruitfulness.
The Command to Love
Jesus commands, This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you (John 15:12). Love is the hallmark of a life abiding in Christ.
Lessons
Evaluate Your Connection
Regularly assess your relationship with Christ. Are you truly abiding in Him, or are there areas where you are disconnected?
Embrace Pruning
Recognize and accept God’s pruning in your life as a means to grow and bear more fruit. Trust His wisdom and timing.
Cultivate Love
Actively seek to love others as Christ loves you. Let love be the defining characteristic of your interactions and relationships.
Seek Fruitfulness
Pursue spiritual disciplines such as prayer, Bible study, and fellowship to remain connected to the vine and bear fruit in your life.
Prayer
Dear God, help me to abide more deeply in Christ and to strengthen your relationship with Him and seek God’s guidance in bearing fruit that glorifies Him and reflects His love to others.
I request for strength and patience to endure God’s pruning process, trusting that it leads to greater growth and fruitfulness.
I ask God to fill my heart with His love, to love others as He has loved me in Jesus name AMEN.
