Thoughts On Psalm 18

A Special Psalms Of Thanksgiving

Psalms 18:43

You have delivered me from the strivings of the people;

You have made me the head of the nations;

A people I have not known shall serve me.

Psalms 18:47

It is GOD who avenges me,

And subdues the peoples under me;

Psalms 23:4-6

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil;

For You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life;

And I will dwell in the house of the LORD

Forever.

Psalm 40:5

“Many, oh LORD my GOD, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.”

This psalm is considered to be David’s longest psalm of Thanksgiving.

The psalm is a heart felt appreciation and thanksgiving to GOD, recounting in great details experience of what a believer passes through because of his faith and how the LORD miraculously gives victory at the end .

It is a reminder and an assurance that though we will face challenges in different degrees and dimensions, ( pangs of death, flood of ungodliness, sorrows of shoel, distress, strong enemies, haters), but as long as we love the LORD and keep on trusting in HIM at all times as our LORD GOD, whenever we cry out to HIM for help, HE will answer. HIS deliverance is always far beyond our expectations.

It is a reminder that thanks are due to GOD alone even when we are in crisis because we have an assurance that things will end in praise.

In this Psalms, we are given a wonderful preview of the power and glory of GOD in manifestations. All this, the LORD wil put at our disposal to ensure we are mightily helped.

However HIS great deliverance comes at the price of our righteousness.

This reminds us of Joseph. He definitely passed through a lot but throughout his years of trials, he kept loving and trusting the LORD so much so that when “help” came through the way of sin, he outrightly turned it down, he couldn’t bring himself to do anything that the LORD hates.

We can see the result of his complete trust and self discipline.

This content of this Psalm is a big comfort to many who are passing through unspeakable terrible period, especially in the times we are in, and wondering of what good it is to still cling to our righteousness, just the way Job’s wife also wondered.

Lessons

Do i love the LORD, indeed?

Is the LORD my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my strength, my shield, the horn of my salvation?

Do i trust HIM at all times?

Do i know to give HIM thanks in every circumstance?

If the answer is yes, for sure, the LORD will move heaven and earth to give me victory.

Prayer Point

May we be encouraged and may we also come out of every trial, victorious and in control in the mighty name of JESUS, Amen
