Thoughts on Psalm 94
Lord, how long will the wicked, How long will the wicked triumph?*
Psalms 94:3 NKJV*
The verse above sounds like the question in the hearts of many today. Similar to the burden which was upon the prophet in Habbakuk chapter one. However, just as the Lord replied prophet Habbakuk, God is speaking directly to us in today’s Psalm. Perhaps you have been overwhelmed and rightly burdened by the state of things around you, that somewhat in the inner recess of your heart, you are thinking, “God does not care”. The word of God has come to lighten up your countenance o child of God. Since God is holy and just, you can be certain that the wicked will not prevail. The one who made your ears is not deaf, the one who made your eyes is not blind. He knows everything, and surely knows the oppression and wickedness that pervade our land. As Judge of the whole universe, in due season, nothing will restrain His hand from the punishment that awaits the wicked. For example, in Egypt, Israel’s case was not different. Exodus 1:14
*And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage—in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor.*
This pain and suffering continued for so long, until God heard their groaning. Exodus 2:25(NLT),
*He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act*
Never forget that God always knows when to act. Keep in mind verse 24 of our Psalm today, *For the Lord will not cast off His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance*
So when doubts fill your mind, let comfort from His word give you renewed hope and cheer.
Another important lesson to draw from Psalm 94 is found in verses 12-13. Creating in us an awareness and consciousness that at times, God must discipline us. This is part of our spiritual training as His children in the manner parents do for their children. The Bible says that no discipline is enjoyable while it is happening (it’s painful!) But afterward, there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way (Heb 12:11). So when you feel God’s hand of correction or rebuke, accept it as proof of His love. Realise that God is urging you to follow His paths instead of stubbornly going your own way. Remember, Jesus though He was a Son, “learned” obedience by the things He suffered.(Heb 5:8)
