THOUGHTS ON PSALM 96
Memory verse
1. Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
2. Sing to the LORD, bless His name; proclaim His salvation day after day.
Introduction
Psalm 96 is a vibrant call to universal praise, illustrating the grandeur and glory of God. This psalm encourages the reader to proclaim the wonders of God’s deeds and the majesty of His reign among all nations. It describes the worship and adoration God deserves from both mankind and nature alike.
Most of its lines appear in David’s song when the ark was brought to Jerusalem (1 Chron 16:23-33). This reminds us that the LORD still reigns even without a king on David’s throne. “Sing to the LORD a new song” (v. 1).
In Scripture, a “new song” often rises after a fresh act of rescue (Isa 42:10, Rev 5:9). Here the focus is God’s ongoing salvation “day after day” (v. 2). The phrase invites creativity in worship while anchoring lyrics in God’s unchanging deeds.
Future Judgment and Hope
“He is coming to judge the earth… in righteousness and… faithfulness” (v. 13). The verb “is coming” appears twice, doubling certainty.
New Testament writers connect the coming Judge with Jesus (Acts 17:31; Rev 19:11). For believers, judgment is not dread but relief: wrongs will be set right (Psa 98:9). Get ready for the coming of the LORD.
Worship and Offerings in His Courts
The psalm links right heart attitude (“ascribe… glory”) with concrete action (offerings) brings about a balance Mic 6:6-8.
• “Bring an offering” – Lev 2.
• “Enter His courts” – plural hints at the temple’s various precincts.
• “Tremble” – physical awe (Exo 19:16).
Practical Application
a. Fresh praise: replace routine with “new songs” that recount current works of God.
b. Global vision: see every people group as intended choir members; support missions.
c. Reject substitutes: identify modern “idols” (wealth, status) and celebrate the true Creator.
d. Whole-person worship: combine heartfelt honor with tangible giving and holy living.
e. Hope amid turmoil: political shifts cannot shake a world “firmly established” by the reigning LORD.
Summary
• Verse 2, “proclaim His salvation” – fulfilled in Lk 2:30-32 when Simeon calls Jesus “Your salvation… a light for revelation to the Gentiles.”
• Verse 10, “The LORD reigns” – echoed in Rev 11:15, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.”
• Verse 13, righteous judgment – Acts 10:42 names Jesus “the One appointed by God to judge the living and the dead.”
Prayer
Thank God for His majesty, power, and the wonderful deeds He has done in your life and throughout history.
Ask God to renew your heart and inspire a deeper, more vibrant worship in your life.
Pray for courage and opportunities to declare God’s glory and share His salvation with others.
Seek God’s guidance in fostering unity among believers and encouraging worship that transcends cultural and national boundaries.
Pray for faith and assurance in God’s righteous judgment and His sovereign rule over the world in Jesus name, Amen.

THOUGHTS ON PSALM 98
THEME
NEW SONG FOR OUR GREAT GOD
MAIN SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 98:1
“O sing unto the LORD a new song; for HE hath done marvellous things: HIS right hand, and HIS holy arm, hath gotten HIM the victory.”
SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES:
Psalm 98:7–9;
Isaiah 52:10;
Romans 8:19–22
In this Psalms, David does not merely call us to sing a new song; he tells us why:
– GOD has done marvellous things,
– GOD revealed HIS salvation,
– GOD has remembered HIS mercy and faithfulness towards Israel.
David shows us here that praise should be a conscious response to who GOD is and what HE has done, not merely a routine of singing and dancing.
In verse 3, the Psalmist declares that all the ends of the earth have seen GOD’s salvation manifested through HIS mercy and faithfulness towards Israel.
GOD’s dealings with HIS people become a testimony to the watching world. Israel’s survival through the Holocaust and the establishment of the modern State of Israel in 1948 may remind us of this enduring theme of GOD’s faithfulness, though these historical events are not the specific subject of the Psalm.
I pray that the LORD will also show forth HIS salvation in Nigeria and remember HIS mercy such that the outcome will cause the world to notice us.
Then David gets very excited about the coming judgement of the LORD, not as a day of terror or fear but a glorious event that all earth should rejoice over. I have never seen this like this.
David then summons not only all humanity but the sea, the rivers and the hills to rejoice (vv.4–8).,inviting creation itself to join the celebration because the LORD is coming to judge the earth with righteousness and equity (v.9). HIS righteous reign gives the world hope that injustice will not have the final word. No, wickedness will not reign forever
This Psalm teaches us that our praise should go beyond personal blessings, we should have the habit of celebrating GOD’s mighty acts, proclaim HIS salvation, and rejoice in the righteous King whose purposes embrace the whole earth.
TAKEAWAY
1. Know why we praise HIM
– GOD’s salvation revealed,
– HIS faithfulness manifested,
– and HIS righteous reign to come
should give creation, reason to sing
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, give us hearts that recognise Your mighty works and praise You with understanding.
2. Let Your mercy and faithfulness be manifested in our lives and in Nigeria so that others may see Your salvation.
3. May Your righteous reign be evident in our world, and may the nations turn to You in worship, in JESUS name, Amen.

REFLECTIONS ON PSALMS 100
Psalms 100 titled “A SONG OF PRAISE FOR THE LORD’S FAITHFULNESS TO HIS PEOPLE”
Key Scriptures
(Psalms 100:4)
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His gates with Praise, Be thankful to Him and bless His name”
REFLECTIONS
“A THANKFUL HEART EXPRESSES ITSELF IN PRAISE”
PRAISE is the OUTWARD EXPRESSION OF APPRECIATION of the Lord for:
* MIGHTY WORKS
* SALVATION
* DAILY BENEFITS
* BLESSINGS
* PROVISION
* DELIVERANCE (Psalms 68:19)
INSTRUCTED / COMMANDED
ALL inhabitants of the earth are instructed to PRAISE the Lord.
(Ps 138: 4)
The Bible has commanded that “Great is the and GREATLY TO BE PRAISED And His greatness is UNSEARCHABLE”
(Psalms 145:3)
We praise the Lord in various ways:
1. With singing
(Ps 9: 11)
2. With shouting
(Ps 98:4)
3. With the dance (Ps 150:4)
4. With musical instruments
(Ps 150:3-5)
5. Oh clap your hands, all you peoples.
(Psalms 47:1)
THE PROTOCOL
Psalms 100 verses 4-6 establishes a “Protocol” for approaching the throne:
1. Acknowledge the Lord’s SOVEREIGNTY
2. Enter His gates with THANKSGIVING
(TOWDAH)
3. Enter His courts with PRAISE (TEHILLAH)
4. Blessing His Name. (BARAK)
BENEFITS OF PRAISES
1. The Earth shall yield increase
(Psalms 67:6)
2. God shall bless us (Psalms 67:7)
3. The nations will be glad
(Psalms 67:4)
4. The ends of the earth shall fear the Lord. (Psalms 67:7)
Conclusion
OUR THANKFULNESS CAN BE MEASURED BY THE EXUBERANCE OF OUR PRAISE!
Our PRAISE is limited because the soul is prone to forget “The Benefits of the Lord!
That is why the Psalmist advised:
“Forget Not All His Benefits” (Ps.103:2)
Brethren, its very important to REMEMBER that: “The Lord is good and His mercy endures forever”
Praise Ye The Lord!
Prayer
Father, please accept us, accept our PRAISE and receive our WORSHIP, in the Mighty Name of Jesus, we pray. AMEN
Thoughts On Psalm 101
KEY VERSES
“I will sing about love and justice. Lord, I will sing to you. I will be careful to live a pure life. I will live in my house with complete honesty. When will you come to me? I will not even look at anything shameful.
I hate all wrongdoing. I want no part of it! I will not be involved in anything dishonest. I will have nothing to do with evil. I will stop anyone who secretly says bad things about a neighbor. I will not allow people to be proud and think they are better than others.
I will look throughout the land for those who can be trusted. Only such people can live with me. Only those who live pure lives can be my servants. I will never let a dishonest person live in my house.
I will not let liars stay near me. My goal each day will be to destroy the wicked living in our land. I will force all who do evil to leave the city of the Lord.” (Easy-to-Read Version)
Today’s Psalm is ascribed to David as author. It is believed that he wrote the Psalm early in his reign as king as he decided the standards by which he wanted to live.
In the same vain, the onus is on anyone who has accepted Christ as Lord, and having been qualified by God to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in the light must of necessity determine by what standards to live.
With a new identity in Christ, 1Jn 2:16-17 admonishes ….
“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”
The Will of God is revealed in His word. David lived true to these standards, and was reckoned as a man after God’s heart(1 Sam 13:14), it is safe to say that following the same standards would not be wrong.
In this year of Ebenezer, we can call on God to help us in our resolve to make righteousness not just a gift that is received by faith through Christ, but also become our daily practice.
REFLECTIONS ON PSALM 102
Memory Verse: You will rise up and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show her favor—
INTRODUCTION
Psalm 102 is a heartfelt plea to God from an afflicted individual. It’s a profound representation of the human condition in the face of suffering and the timeless hope in God’s enduring mercy and strength.
This psalm expresses the depth of the Psalmist’s distress and his unyielding faith in God’s eternal nature and future restoration. It is a prayer of one afflicted, yet focused on rebuilding Zion. Either way, the psalm speaks from the rubble of Jerusalem, when the temple lay in ruins and God’s people felt abandoned.

• Days vanish like smoke v. 3 – Jam 4:14: You are a mist that appears for a little while.
• Bones burn like glowing embers v. 3 – Psa 22:14, My bones are out of joint.
• Withered grass v. 4 – Isa 40:6–8 contrasts fading grass with God’s enduring word.
LIFE APPLICATION
• Bring raw feelings to God—He invites honest lament Phi 4:6.
• Anchor sorrow in God’s permanence; His character, not our mood, defines reality.
• Pray for modern Jerusalem and for global recognition of God’s glory Psa 122:6; Rom 11:25–27.
• Teach coming generations: what we write and say today can spark praise long after we are gone Deut 6:6–9.
SUMMARY
The psalm closes with a promise that outlives every headline: “But You remain the same, and Your years will never end…their descendants will be established before You.” In frailty or in strength, this certainty steadies God’s people in every age.
May this study of Psalm 102 encourage you to bring your burdens to God, trust in His eternal nature, and live with hope for the future.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I ask you to make your presence known in my life, especially during times of distress and uncertainty. I pray for wisdom to understand the brevity of life and to live with an eternal perspective. I thank you for your promises of restoration and redemption, and ask for faith to trust in your timing. I pray for the faith of future generations, that they may know and praise the Lord in Jesus name, Amen.
