For you to remain vibrant in your spiritual journey, you need to be intentional and quite dedicated and this should reflect in your daily living.
In this present age, it is often easy to get carried away with daily activities, trends, needs, and other factors that you forget that you have a spiritual life to nurture.
In the midst of your daily pursuits ensure not to lose your zeal and focus on God, because it is God’s will that you remain vibrant, and passionate about His presence, your relationship with Him, and your service to the body of Christ.
Remember in the book of Leviticus 6:13, the commandment of God came with a high sense of urgency: “The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out”.
You may be wondering how this scripture applies to you, remember the Bible also says: You are God’s temple, therefore, as the temple of God, your heart is the Holy altar of God, although the Holy Spirit ignites the first fire, but you have a duty to keep the fire burning so it doesn’t go out (1 Corinthians 3:16).
So how do you keep your fire burning? What are you expected to do to remain on fire for Christ? Keep reading to find out!
1. Subduing Your Flesh Through Fasting
Fasting helps to keep your fire burning by helping your heart align with God’s will, during the time of fasting, your flesh is subject to your spirit, so it doesn’t seek things that pleases the flesh but the spirit, therefore to keep your spiritual zeal for God, you need fasting. Choose a day or two in a week when you will pray and seek the face of God.
2. Prayers
There has to be prayer on your prayer altar, the Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, pray without ceasing, in order to keep your fire burning, your altar must be active with timely communication with God, this is needed to keep an active relationship with God also. Therefore ensure to create a daily schedule that will provide good time for prayers.
3. Holy Living
Holding onto secret sins and double lifestyle will put out your fire, to be on fire for God, you cannot negotiate Holy Living. The Bible clearly says: “Be ye Holy for God is Holy” (1 Peter 1:15-16), even though Holiness is not a day’s work, you must intentionally work towards it daily, allowing your mind to be renewed by the Word of God, guard what enters your heart, through the eyes and the ears and ensure your utmost heart desire is to serve God and please Him.
4. The Fear of God
To keep your fire burning for God, you must reverence Him in your heart and it has to reflect in your actions, let His fear guard your life as this will not only help you be wise, but will also help you make wise decisions towards ensuring your fire keeps burning, for example some other persons may see it as business to misappropriate funds but because you fear God, you won’t do that, with that you will be at peace with God and your fire will keep burning
Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
5. Choosing to Live in Love
Love cannot be overemphasized in this walk of faith, so also to keep your fire burning, you must choose to walk in love daily, it doesn’t mean that people won’t provoke you, it doesn’t mean people will always behave in a way that deserves your love, but to keep malice, dwell in anger and bitterness will quench your spiritual fire, so it’s better to intentionally walk in love.
The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 16:14, “Do everything in love.” When you decide to walk in love, your life will be a conducive environment to host God and He will surely abide with you. Even in unpleasant life situations, understand that just as you love God, He also loves you and will always work things out in your favor, so walk in love.
