It Is Your Life By Pst. Kola Olayebi

I will be sharing with you this day the topic: “It Is Your Life“.

Deuteronomy 32:46-47

And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. 47 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it”.

The Psalmist emphasized the pre-eminence of the Word of God, He said in Psalm 138:2- “You have magnified your Word above all your name”

Actually I do not need to tell you how powerful the name of God is (because it is indeed really powerful), you all know.

Hence the bible says He has highly exalted the name so much that every other name bows to that name, of things in heaven, and of those things under the earth.

The disciples came back to testify, when Jesus sent out the 70 of them, they came back to tell the master that Demons were subject to them in the name of Jesus Christ

The bible also says the name of Jesus Christ is a strong tower, it is a strong defence and through that name, limitless impossibilities becomes possible, Christ assured that if you ask anything in His name, (anything which includes your present prayer requests), He says He will do it (John 14:14)

Truly, there is no name like that of Jesus, the name is powerful and has so much potency

Yet the bible says as powerful as the name is, God has magnified His Word above His name.

So if the name of Jesus Christ is so great, it means there is something still greater than that, and that is God’s Word.

So what is the Word of God? The bible says His Word is truth, it is the discerner of the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. It’s the creative force of the almighty, the bible tells us that all things were made and framed by the Word of His power, The Word is the will and mind of God.

Now psalm 118 gives us details of what the Word can accomplish, it says the Word is light, wisdom, and so on…

Most importantly, the Word is the revelation of God, in John 1:4, we were told that the Word became flesh and dwelled amongst us, the Word is Jesus Christ,

When our Lord Jesus Christ was speaking to the multitude, after He had fed them with 5 loaves and 2 fishes, He said “The Words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life”

Remember the topic of this sermon is: “it is your life“, like I said earlier on, Apostle Paul declared, the Worlds were framed by the Word of God so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible, he testifies in another place that He(Jesus) upholds all things by the Word of His power (Hebrews 1:3)

The Word of God is the only way whether you like it or not, it is the only way we can know the will and mind of God because the Word of God is forever and ever settled in heaven

His Word is immutable, just as John 5:39 says: ” Scriptures can not be broken”, though heaven and earth may pass away but not a jot of God’s Word will ever pass away.

His Word is immutable, that is why He told them in Deuteronomy 11:18 “You shall lay up these Words in your heart” When you study the Word of God, it becomes that force that governs the Work of your hands, it becomes your vision, it will provide direction for you wherever you go, the Word is not just for the church, but for every area of your life. It’s all encompassing, hence it is your life, the Word is not only what you do on Sunday morning or what you have only in your quiet time, it applies to all area of your life.

Let’s consider the steps to engaging the Word of God so it can work for you

Steps To Engage The Word Of God

1. Read the Word and memorize it (job 22:21-22)

It’s not enough to read but read and memorize it, just as the Psalmist said: Psalm 119-11 ” Your Word have I hidden in my heart that I may not sin against you

2. Study the Word: There’s a difference between reading and studying, though the first step says read, beyond that you must study it, the bible says 2 Timothy 2:15- “Study to show thyself approved of God” so if you are not studying God’s Word, approval from God may be far from you.

Daniel was someone who did lots of exploits, the bible says concerning Daniel in Daniel

“In the first year of Darius’ reign, I Daniel, understood by the books the number of years specified by the Word of God through Prophet Jeremiah” which means Daniel was a man given to the study of the Word.

Studying the Word means spending time, just as you do your school or any other serious project, also you must meditate on it, while studying things will begin to jump at you, you will get illumination, understanding and then you begin to meditate on it.

Someone once tried to describe meditation as the goat that regurgitates.

It is the Word you study and meditate on, that will answer for you in the day of trouble. When the devil came to tempt Jesus Christ, Christ simply responded to Him with the Word of God.

So study the Word, it is your life.
