The light of the [uncompromisingly] righteous [is within him–it grows brighter and] rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked [furnishes only a derived, temporary light and] shall be put out shortly.
Proverbs 13:9 (AMPC)
I had to cross reference this verse with Isaiah 60:1 to gain indepth about the light Solomon referred to Isaiah writes ARISE [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you–rise to a new life]! *Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord),* for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you! (AMPC)
The GLORY of God = LIGHT!
Indeed it is only the glory of God that has the ability and capacity to grow brighter in the life of an righteous person.
Romans 3:22 says *_This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ_ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile* …..meaning we cannot claim to be righteous by our own standards, because the righteousness we strive for is given through faith in Jesus Christ, hence God has His standards of righteousness, we can attain God’s kind of righteousness through the help of the Holy Spirit our counsellor and guide.
You see, the moment we become born again proclaiming and declaring Jesus to be our Lord and savior we automatically have the light Solomon mentioned in Proverbs 13:9.
Now to get this light brighter we have to play our own part of dwelling and living in God’s presence fanning the flames of hot coal placed on the altar of our lives.
How do we get this light brighter?…..we pray, fast, study the word of God. Now by praying& fasting _(I don’t mean praying and fasting for your needs, wants and desires….but praying and fasting with a longing to know more of God and from God through the Holy Spirit in you),_ studing the bible, loving people just like Jeus loves, etc
This is how your light becomes brighter, because the glory of God spreads bit by bit until you are enveloped in His glory which is His light
We remember Moses in Exodus 34:29-35, (paraphrasing) the bibe says that the face of Moses shone so bright that his face had to be covered with a veil.
That is what happens when you dwel in the presence of God, the light of God in you becomes so bright that it blinds the enemy and causes him to be afraid to come near you.
We notice Solomon didn’t say the light of the wicked but he said the lamp….interesting!
Lights don’t go off easily, they take a process of diminishing in brightness to give opportunity to be fanned, but if not fanned they eventually go out.
But lamps, with just one blow of air, they go off. For those of us who haven’t had the opportunity of seeing lamps, we can think of a candle, when you want to put off the flame of a candle, you don’t require much breath, all you need to do is one easy push of air and that’s all.
Now that’s how the flame of a wicked person is easily blown off.
Okay….just a quick definition to give insight to who a wicked person is…..according to Longman dictionary ” a wicked person is someone who behaves in a way that is morally wrong.”
However, the bible gives different sides to what is considered wicked in the sight of God, so its best to do your research in order to know if there’s anything you are doing right by your own standards, but is considered wicked by the standards of God.
