RACAD Genesis 21 Highlights

THOUGHTS ON GENESIS CHAPTER 21

1. Our God is a faithful God! He is a Covenant keeping God! This is confirmed in this chapter. “And the LORD visited Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as He has spoken.” Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age! This is a fulfilment of promise.

2. This is a great lesson to all the waiting Brethren. A delay is not a denial. While waiting, keep thanking God. Be fervent in spirit, giving glory to God. No murmuring, no complaining. Look up to God, for He is faithful that promised you. As He came through for father Abraham, He will surely come through for all of us in every area that we are waiting for Him in Jesus Christ’s Name!

3. While waiting, we have to focus on God. Do not make room for any plan B, because that will negate the plan of God for your life. Remember what happened to Abraham and Sarah in the case of Ishmael.

Covenant people should not behave like common or ordinary people. What Sarah did to Abraham by asking him to go into her maid so that she can carry the seed of her husband on her laps was just a normal thing.

That was the norm of their time. There was nothing bad about that, rather, it portrayed her as a selfless person. It showed that she loved her husband and wanted to do anything to please him but little did she know that her family was a peculiar one. Covenant people should be very careful!

That singular act has brought a serious trouble to the world. Ishmael brought about the bond woman religion which is Islam known for terrorism today!

Let us always wait for God’s time, that is the best for us! At God’s set time, He will fulfil His promise! He is not a man that He should lie, neither a son of man that should repent.

4.. The seven ewe lambs that Abraham placed against each other was a token of the covenant between him and Abimelech. It was the price that Abraham paid for the well at Beersheba.

4. Abraham was a threat to King Abimelech because of the way God was blessing him; that was why he asked Abraham to enter into a Covenant with him that he will not hurt him and his people. The all round prosperity of Abraham got a whole king Abimelech intimidated.

5. Though Ishmael came in through a bond woman, God still blessed him to show that He is the God of all flesh. God promised to be with Ishmael because he was also the seed of Abraham. God promised to make a great nation from Ishmael!

Father, help us to wait patiently on You till our change comes through You in Jesus Christ’s Name ! Amen!
