This chapter is centred on the birth of Samson.
Samson was from the tribe of Dan. He was a special child with a special mission to deliver the Israelites from the Philistines’ oppression!
His birth was foretold by an angel of God just like the birth of Jesus Christ, John the Baptist and a few others.
These three people were highly anointed! They did not live long on earth. They died as soon as their missions on the earth were accomplished.
Jesus was crucified at age 33.John the Baptist was beheaded at age 32. Samson’s age was not outrightly mentioned in the Bible when he died but some speculations pointed at age 40 because he judged Israel for 20 years.
I believe that the angel of God appeared to Samson’s mother because she had the major role to play in his life from the conception till birth.
The relevant instructions were given to her concerning the child. I think the father’s attention was not all that necessary that was why the angel kept on appearing to the mother alone even the second time.
It was in order to have Manoah as a witness that was why the woman had to call his attention. It is either that Manoah was too busy to have a personal encounter with God.
Even when the angel had finished his assignment and left, Manoah was sore afraid that he and the wife would die because they had seen God. It was the wife that strengthened him with some comforting words.
LESSONS LEARNT
1. God delights in and accepts our offerings. It is good to honour God with our offerings when He shows us some loving kindness and answers our prayers! It is good to appreciate the man of God also when God uses them to minister to the people.
Look at what happened in the case of Manoah and his wife’s offering to God. The angel did not eat the sacrifice but ascended to heaven in the flame signifying acceptance.
2. God uses clean vessels. Verse 4.
3. God’s people should be careful of what they eat. Covenant people should be disciplined with their appetite.
4. It takes a level of brokenness and Consecration to have a personal encounter with God. Samson’s experience was different because his Consecration started from the womb.
PRAYER
Father, thank You because You know our beginning and our ending! Your plan for us is a good plan to give us a future and hope! We will fulfil our missions on the earth in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name! Amen! Thank You Jesus!
