INSIGHTS FROM 2SAMUEL:11
For insight into this chapter, I would like us to consider the following 5 references:
1.And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that HE had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake. And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after He was come from Hebron 2 Samuel 5:12 -13
2. ….. at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; …. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof, He saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. 2 Samuel 11:1-2
3. And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child. 2 Samuel 11:5
4. And He wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that He may be smitten, and die. 2Sam11:15
5. And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD. 2 Samuel 11:27
If the first thing King David did, the moment it dawned on him that GOD has indeed established him king, was to go for women, It is likely that his weakness was women. Moreso, we remember that he went after Micah, even after she was taken from him and given to another man in marriage.
King David set himself up when he went into marrying many wives.Though at this time, GOD was silent.
When kings were supposed to go to war, he preferred to delegate his duties to another. That was his undoing. At that moment, the devil knew he had to strike fast by using his weakness against him. And it worked.
It is this same weakness for women that led him to marry many wives, then to committing adultery with someone’s wife and got the woman pregnant, and in trying to cover his sin, it finally led him to murder the husband of the woman. This time, GOD was not silent.
King David has inadvertently broken the hedge and allowed the serpent, not just into his life but into his generation. And he unleashed a curse into his family. – the beginning of a generational curse where his sons will find themselves commiting indecent sexual sins, marrying hundreds of wives and commiting murder, worse than their dad did, which affected their performances as kings and also cost them to lose authority over the kingdom and over their enemies.
In this chapter, we see how David’s singular act went on later to unleash a great evil into his blood line.
The devil is a patient spirit. He will wait to get you out of the right path in order to present you with your weakness.
As long as you are doing the right thing at the right time, all the enemy’s attempts on your life will be futile.
The instance that you deviate from the right path, you make yourself
vulnerable and in such moment, your weakness will show up.
One’s weakness may lead to a sin which brings about a curse not just on a sinner but on his bloodline, just like it happened to King David.
Saul had only one wife. And because of that he had no drama in his household.
We thank GOD we have scriptures to read and to guide us so that we understand the spiritual implication of sin which is like opening a can of worms to generations, yet unborn.
If it could happen to David, a man after GOD’s hearts, rest assured that it can happen to anyone, if found in the same situation.
GOD sees all our actions and each action has consequences which spills over to our children.
Yes, when we get born again, old things are supposed to be passed away but there are some issues that must be thoroughly addressed to give us awarenesss of the problem that needs to be tackled properly and that is where the Sorting out program is very significant. King David’s sons grew to become helpless recipients of this evil, unleashed by their father’s action.
