1 Samuel 24

Our focus is The Book of 1 Samuel Chapter 24 where David spared the life of King Saul & rejected the Counsel of his servants.

THEME:

“Overcome Evil with Good”

Key Scripture

(1 Samuel 24:6-7)

” The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed,……..

“So David restrained his servants with these words, and did NOT allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on his way”

Reflection 1

“Overcome EVIL with GOOD”

King Saul was envious of David because the people of Israel appreciated David’s military prowess!

Rather than honour David as a true Hero, King Saul pursued David with 3000 of his finest soldiers.

Yet David spared the life of King Saul when he had the opportunity to kill the King, He only cut off a piece of Saul’s robe as evidence.

Thank God, David sided with Heaven by “Overcoming EVIL with GOOD” according to Romans 12:21.

My People, let us learn from David ‘s beliefs and actions because WHOEVER rewards EVIL for GOOD is exposed to greater EVIL!

(Proverbs 17:13)

Reflection 2

“Reject The Counsel of The Ungodly”

A Curious Development from this Scenario was the COUNSEL/ CONSIDERED OPINION of David’s Servants as recorded in 1 Samuel 24:4

“Then the men of David said to him ” This is day of which the Lord said to you, ‘ Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you’

Folks, When “SINNERS” entice you, CONSENT THOU NOT/Do not give in to them (Prov 1:10).

There are Many “Voices” , “Advisers” and “Counsellors” all around!

HOW TO DISCERN ?

It is important that we Know What Is WRITTEN as well as “TRY THE SPIRITS WHETHER they are of God” (1 John 4:1)

Finally, we shall INDIVIDUALLY take responsibility before Almighty God for Our Actions/ Inactions and “WRONG ADVISE” or IGNORANCE shall not be Valid as Excuses.
